Uber background check

Hi I'm James, new to the forum.
I made this in hopes someone could help me, I was charged for misdemeanor assault about 8 years ago (young and dumb). I applied to drive for Uber in 2018, the assault showed up on Checkr. Uber sent me an email saying I was denied because of something in my background check.

I started my own landscaping business the same month Uber denied me and I've been doing very well with it, business has been growing steadily every year. But during winter months I have a lot more free time and I'm a night owl so I figured I'd take another shot at Uber to drive at night. So I sent them a message on the help option in the app. The representative told me I was denied employment because of my background check they conducted in 2018 and if there's any errors I had to dispute it with Checkr.

I checked my background check on Checkr and everything is clear the charges were removed from my record. Checkr told me I had to have Uber send them a request to rerun my background check. But when I told Uber what Checkr said, Uber said due to privacy policy they cannot rerun my background check, instead they said report any errors to Checkr to dispute...but Checkr is telling me there is nothing in my record to dispute because it's a clean record....

Any information is much appreciated thank you guys for your time.

Uber is concerned about our privacy???
Pfffffttttttt, yeah right!
Welcome to UP.net, I hope your issue gets resolved.
Exactly, confused about all this now. Thank you!

Why is requesting a re-run against their privacy policy? Your first one was 2+ years ago. They run one on me every year -- how come that's not against their privacy policy?
Yes my brother and a few friends drive for Uber they told me they get background check done every year too so not sure why they can't run mine

So they message back quick, but kinda seems like automated responses.
I showed them my background check from Checkr (same thing I attached here), they told me they would get back to me in 5-7 business days. But they said the same thing 3 weeks ago, when I followed up with them about the review it seemed like they didn't know what I was talking about

Go to the Uber hub, don't try to solve any of these problems online. The people you are dealing right now located in third world country and they not gonna do anything unless it something simple like deactivating you and the stuff like that.

I started doing Uber in July 2017 part time. The current earning potential is worse than it was back then and even in 2017 the earning potential was well below what it was 2 years before that. If you want extra cash deliver food for dominos or some equivalent company!

being denied access to Uber is a blessing in disguise

I'd think some people are making good money from it still. I have some clients who are Uber/lyft drivers and they seem to be doing alright they have nice houses within the city

I went to the hub and they said I had to contact support via the app because they don't have access to my account info since I'm not a driver

They are not very smart at Uber support, it sounds like they are confusing the issue, they think you want a copy of your old background check, so they are telling you that you can’t have another copy. You need to tell them to run a new background check, you got all the errors fixed, maybe that’ll get the ball rolling. You could try calling Uber support, I’m sure the number is in the app or the site somewhere though they like to hide it

I mentioned to them that Checkr needs a request from Uber to run a new background check, I even sent the screenshot to Uber of exactly what Checkr said. They responded with "dispute any errors with Checkr". I tried looking for Uber support phone number but there's no option to call on the app and I've looked online can't find anything doesn't seem like they want people to call in

Basically they just told you to F off(you are in their system, and technically you are driver without ability to drive because of your background check), try to send message to support with the header "PLEASE ESCALATE" or go to hub one more time.
I'm gonna go to the hub because I feel like these people responding to me on the app aren't even reading my messages

They are not. What happens is that your message goes into a call centre in Bangalore, Pondicherry or Quézon City. The customer "service" agent opens it. This customer "service" agent has a command of the English Language equivalent to that of a U.S. fourth grader. The computer then "reads" the message. It highlights several phrases and suggests replies. The customer "service" agent then chooses from the suggestions. Once complete, the computer composes a "reply" and sends it to you.

The customer "service" agent who sent you the reply usually has little idea what it said.
That's crazy, but makes sense. I was wondering why every time they responded they would ask about my issue when I just took 6 minutes explaining it and been almost 5 months going back and forth.

I would send a message and let Uber know that checkr advised a new background check would have to be requested by Uber.

that response looks like a bot response about disputing a recent background check
I sent that to Uber, I also included the email I got from Checkr stating Uber has to request a new background check. But the representative said it's some how against their privacy policy to rerun my background. When I asked about that, a new representative asked me to explain the issue... I understand they trying to save money by exporting their customer support to cheaper wages countries, but this is beyond frustrating having to deal with this same issue on repeat for 5-6 months having to explain the same issue everyday when it's literally something as simple as running a new background check

Domestic violence. It was my first and only charge on my record. No physical harm, me and my ex got in an argument almost 9 years ago and the neighbor called the police. The neighbor said they heard my ex screaming, but she was just yelling. She was at the courthouse trying to plead the case to get me out of jail, but the neighbor wrote a statement so had to go through the court process and ended up taking the plea deal to avoid jail because we couldn't afford an attorney to take it to trial.

This one charge set my life back a lot I couldn't find a job because when companies would pull my record they would see that charge and see me as a violent person but we have twins due in April so trying to do Uber/Lyft because the schedule would be flexible incase she needs help
