Yea, you say potato, I say tomato ...
what's the difference?
Semantics.

And I am a world renowned anti-semantic.

If the boss tells someone who works for him that his services are no longer needed because there isn't enough work ... I call that 'laid off'.
What do you call it?
I call it unable to qualify for UI.

Ants are out now that is for sure! Plenty of ants on Uber and Lyft sitting around without moving too! No riders!

Traffic is another thing... it is back to normal in my area :(

Back on Friday, May 15th in LA we went from the valley to Pomona on the 101/10 at 8AM and never saw traffic. We did 70MPH the whole way, even in downtown LA near the 110! I've never seen that before. Later that day in Las Vegas the strip was dead. No traffic and we saw like 6 people walking at various points. At that time all the casinos were still closed. All the lights were on. Just no people.

Very funny post.

However, laid off usually entails unemployment benefits.

Again, great use of the written language. Thanks for the laughs. Reminds me of recently departed Norm Crosby.

That can be fixed much easier than throwing out the whole freedom component of being an IC. Just write the law that you will pay into the UI (and social security? and medicare? and withhold fed/state income taxes while we at it?), the person or company paying you will pay into the system and then you qualify. Can even make it optional if you want.

RS drivers are not the only IC's.
What about real estate agents?
Wanna make the Broker and his agents pay into the UI system?
I can't imagine the government of MY state turning down more tax money if that's what you want.

PS: You do know what the I in UI stands for .. it's insurance. Just like insurance, if you don't pay the premium you're not covered.

Drove my wife to work today as I am staying in self quarantine, and I didn't see ONE SINGLE UBER anywhere on the streets, while going along a route, and in a direction, where a 3-4 car UBER sighting at this time (the AM rush hour) would be considered normal and expected.

That's with 1.3MM population, a very large DT core (see pic) and zero people out there walking along the streets............but still lots of ants, if the rider app is to be believed, which it is not 100%.

What's your city UBER traffic like during rush hour right now ?

I'll never forget the first few weeks of lockdown. Its was so surreal to drive around and nobody out. I grew up in San Diego and have driven every inch of this city so to see some of the sites was truly amazing. It was awesome I can't lie and I knew at the time that it was something that might not ever happen again.

nd ... the result is the same.
um, no. for tone, balance and accuracy there is a huge difference. One requires you to be an employee; we are not, have not and will not be employees. So say we all (well voters in Calif). Plus, Uber has never done that, beyond a individual basis.

for TBA.
