As an Uber driver, your safety is of utmost importance. While Uber provides some safety features, such as background checks on riders and an emergency assistance button in the app, it's always a good idea to take extra precautions to protect yourself. One of the ways you can do this is by carrying a weapon for self-defense. However, it's important to note that laws around weapons vary by state and country, so make sure to research the laws in your area before carrying any type of weapon. Here are some weapons to consider for protection as an Uber driver:

  • Pepper spray
  • Stun gun
  • Tactical pen
  • Knife
  • Handgun
  • Personal alarm
  • Taser

Remember, the best way to stay safe as an Uber driver is to always be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable or threatened in any situation, it's important to take action to protect yourself. What other weapons do you recommend for protection as an Uber driver? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.
#1weapon common sense..it's over looked by 90% of drivers

I am toying with the idea of a hidden kill switch . . .
With perhaps a 15 minute delay digital timer.
To let a car jacker get Far enough away . . . Before they are stranded.
( I would Really like to hook it up to 4 pounds of Dupont plastic, sigh laws . . .)
( Maybe a quarter pound and automatic door lock switches, would still send glass & plastic, metal shrapnel flying, probably still a garunteed concussion kill for the car jackers)( don't want to maim innocents)

Could hide it in floor shifter boot. Easy access.
A toggle switch would work.
Enough slack in the boot to work a toggle for years before the leather would wear.
Because I would set switch to off when parking also.
Could be activated without being noticed. View attachment 704066
Pretty cheap & simple to do.
Ignition cutoff, maybe electronic fuel pump cut off also.
Could also rig electric diaphragm valve in major vaccume line. Real cheap.

The Important part is the timer. To let them get far enough Away.

Then you can Tell cops, my stolen car is in a 3 mile radius of here .
If you're goin to do that then putting a kill switch on the fuel pump will allow the car to drive for a few miles before before it runs out of gas.

The apple air tags are very popular for tracking things like cars and body' .

Something else to consider is buying a really cheap iPhone on Ebay. You can buy a cheap one for under $100.00 all day. If you find yourself separated from your car you can use the Find My Phone App to locate your missing car.
Peace. :)

You can blind someone using Clorox which is also illegal better off with pepper spray
Pepper spray is no good in a confined space like that. I don't think the Clorox cleaning spray (not bleach) is strong enough to blind someone and it depends on context whether it's legal or not. If I'm using it it is justified self defense, I'm sure not going to brandish it or threaten.

Keep it all in perspective. As much as I support the Second Amendment, remember that your biggest danger comes from traffic accidents.
Before losing sleep deciding which wonder-boomer to carry … how about a curved mirror for blind spots?
Yes curved mirrors for blind spots can make for excellent self defense weapons. If you get a really big one you can use it as shield, also really helps to confuse your attackers. Nice one. :)

One of the best weapons/self-defense gear items because it's legal everywhere, including with Lyft/Uber's rules, are tactical gloves:

Amazon.com : tactical gloves

They help you out if you get in a tussle because they protect your fingers if you're doing some intense grabbing, punching, or twisting with your hands. They usually have a hard plastic shell over your knuckles which acts like brass knuckles, but is perfectly legal. If you put them on or wear them while driving, it will look like you're wearing driving gloves, but the criminal element will probably recognize what they are and may make them more wary and reluctant to start anything.

Steel shot gloves. Not as heavy as the old led shot gloves. Weighted. Police have used them for decades.

Your knuckles will feel fine.
Their Face will not.

bot? Bot... BOT!
You're more of a bot than c3pO and r2d2 combined... Your grammar/typing/wording is too perfect, I don't recall seeing any emojis from you nor have I ever seen you quote anyone else or respond...
But once you prove me wrong, I'll still apologize.
Somehow I doubt you can prove it, will you accept your MISSION IMPOSSIBLE?

How do we get you disavowed?

First off all of the items on that list are not allowed by Uber or Lyft except for the personal alarm.

You would know that if you were really a driver, but your just a bot, and one giving out harmful information poised as an experienced driver giving advice.

Reported.

From here on out I'm going to ignore this OP, it's up to the moderators to catch this bots bullsh*t and bad advice. And why does it keep changing its avatar? Oh never mind.

By the way the best way to protect yourself is not to get into bad situations in the first place. There are times, places and people to avoid just like one does everyday.

You play in the gutter, your going to get sh*t on you.
I second the motion!... And have reported sopranored as well... Too bad, I like redheads 🤣

Is this Uber driving worth it with these kind of risks? I am thinking of signing up for it but these comments give me a second thought!
Run away from this work like Forrest Gump unless you just looking for something to do (retired) or beer/weed money... In the long run you WILL REGRET trying to make rideshare driving a full time job.

For close quarters protection I go old school.

Seriously, I keep a utility razor knife in my driver's door pocket and I usually have a folding knife in there or in the center console.

I have a 20in 1/2 inch breaker bar that I keep in my car on the floor front seat.

View attachment 703992

Similar to this but thicker and much heavier. It was my grandfather's it's about 50 years old, and heavy. There's a 19 mm deep impact socket with a lug stuck in it attached for added weight.

Not a weapon just a tool. It'll break a stuck lug, window or a jaw.
I do like the idea of a breaker bar but I knew there was some kind of reason I "accidentally" left my wheel bearing seal puller in the storage cubby of my door panel. Being a former mechanic, I should be able to tell a good story for it's need if questioned.

Is that a joke? How on earth would Uber manage to conduct background checks on millions of riders in its database, and who would pay for them? Are you really trying to be sarcastic - or are you in fact an Uber mole pretending to belong to the driver community??
I would bet on sarcasm, if not then suffering from an id10t error?... Rider background checks will never happen...
But i do think uploading a valid ID with real names and real pictures in case tracking is needed... is fair.

I will equate it to Pi currency, it's digital bitcoin if you will, created by Stanford and Harvard types, it is to be a way of payment for internet/app services and use of... Right now all you have to do is mine your daily free pi (open the app, watch an ad) but they are close to "mainnet" (real use of currency) the useable apps are in development... But to transfer my nearly 5k pi to the mainnet and prove you're not a bot like @sopranored you have to upload an ID to prove that you are human or not a black market hacker/terrorist ...

If anyone would like an invite lmk you earn more pi if you are apart of a team/group!

The ones I ordered had to be shipped to a relatives house out of state due shipping restrictions from Amazon. It will vary by state.

The main goal of the.45 round is it's "knockdown power". It doesn't just blow a hole in an attacker,; it knocks them down. It's actually a very slow bullet, giving it more time to transfer energy to what it hits, instead of just punching a clean hole.

I myself shot and killed a guy with a .357 magnum, but almost got stabbed by my attacker, after he took 3 solid hits. The bullets did their job, but left him standing on his feet. He went down after taking a swipe at me with his knife. I changed to a .45 Colt Officer's Model the next day.

Years later, I was in a shootout with a scumbag trying to rob a 7-11. That guy took a .45 round to his right leg. I shot through the car's door, and hit the scumbag twice. The guy almost died from bleeding out, but not quite. He did donate his right leg, between the knee and hip to his cause.

I will always carry a .45 for street protection. It does a better job. I carried a big .45 on my hip, and an AMT Backup in my pocket. The small gun is used to give me time to get to the heavier hitter.

The picture below is my hit pattern, rapid firing from the hip, 30 feet from the target. I had a couple wild shots, but the vast majority are good body hits. You can't kill what you don't hit.

You can not carry a gun according to Uber’s policy.

I feel like a hand grenade would be an excellent choice.

Me, since that unknown person threatened to kill me for no reason. A week or two ago he threw air punches 👊 at my car with another car behind me, as I was leaving a parking lot. I have taken to my dad's knife, and making sure the pepper Spray and struck ingredients stick is worn around my neck. I am not bothered by him, I know God protects me, I just want him to think what a woman can have.

I was told by Uber "Drivers using the Uber platform are prohibited from carrying weapons while using the platform". But there was an asterisk in the statement. At the bottom of the page, the asterisk was noted "within the limits of the law".

I asked the help department to elaborate on the meaning of the "within the limits of the law" statement, and they refused to give me any additional information.

The way I read the statement, is that you cannot carry a weapon unless you are legally allowed by the law. Since I do hold a legitimate permit to carry, I will exercise my God Given, Constitutionally Protected rights. I never let anyone see my gun, and my small knife is for cutting seat belts, not a weapon.

Pursuant to the laws of physics the gun pushes you with the same momentum as the bullet pushes the bad guy. Whether someone falls over or not has a lot more to do with his reaction to being shot than the caliber.

....Whether someone falls over or not has a lot more to do with his reaction to being shot than the caliber.

Absolutely wrong. Sorry, but you are wrong. A man can take 3 hits from a .357, and remain standing. If he is hit in the same exact spot with a .45, he is going down, guaranteed.

I am not an astrophysicist, or a scholar of Physics, but I am a man who has been in more than a couple gunfights. I have seen what bullets do in the real world, not the whiteboard in a lecture hall.

If you knew the history of exactly why the .45 round was developed, working with real world information gained in the bloody fighting in The Philippines, you would have a better understanding.

My experiences did not help to create the theory of the .45 being a knock down round. They proved the theory correct.

Timothy Gramins hit a man 14 times with a .45 and he remained standing. This is just one of many similar stories.

Well, I am a scholar of physics, with degrees in engineering. Every action has an opposite and equal reaction.

I haven't personally shot anyone, but I've shot physical things with mass with all sorts of guns chambered in various .45 caliber and .357 caliber projectiles at varying velocities, and never noticed any .45 caliber round to have enough force to knock a man over.

Simply put, unless you shooting the gun knocks you down, the laws of physics state they aren't knocking anyone else down either. Maybe unless you catch them off balance.

Any person with enough will power can easily remain standing after being hit by a .45 caliber round, assuming you didn't damage their leg or spine. There simply isn't nearly enough force to knock someone over.

If you knew the history of exactly why the .45 round was developed, working with real world information gained in the bloody fighting in The Philippines, you would have a better understanding.

Oh, I know the history. The history is that soldiers missing most of their shots with a .38 colt (less powerful than 38 special let alone .357 magnum) due to a double action trigger, had less success than soldiers making more hits due to a single action trigger (and longer barrel and sight radius) with a .45 colt (which is more powerful than a .45 ACP). Oh, and of course the totally uncontrolled testing that followed it where a bunch of cattle were shot in an unscientific manner. In the Thompson LaGarde tests, I also recall reading about cattle shot repeatedly with a .45 colt. It certainly didn't cause them to be knocked down.

During the civil war era, the military had .35 and .44 caliber revolvers. The .44 caliber revolver is about as powerful as the .38 special is, and the .35 caliber revolver was about as powerful as a .380 auto. Wyatt Earp had no problem killing a lot of men with the .35 caliber. The Navy issued the .35 caliber. The army issued the .44 caliber because it was felt to be better at killing horses, not men.

.357 Magnum, out of a non-snubby barrel has approximately the same momentum as a .45 ACP and significantly more kinetic energy. The only way a .357 magnum is pushing the bad guy less is if it goes through him and out the other side, versus getting stuck in the body. That has a lot more to do with bullet design than caliber (JHP vs FMJ for instance), and furthermore, from a terminal effectiveness standpoint, the common myth that you are better off with a bullet "transferring all of its energy" to the target by being stuck in the body isn't really even true either. A bullet that exits the body transfers less energy, true, and maybe has less "knockdown" (maybe a 45 could knock down a raccoon, but not man), but you know what it also creates? Two holes. Much quicker bleeding.

What you have is two anecdotes.

Andecdotes does not data make. Sorry.

Whew! Good thing, strangers and potential criminals in my car with guns could be bad, but since they aren't allowed, no worries.

What a relief!

I asked the help department to elaborate on the meaning of the "within the limits of the law"

The way I read the statement, is that you cannot carry a weapon unless you are legally allowed by the law.
Your interpretation is incorrect. This statement is referencing State Laws.

In FL, and at least one other state, it is illegal for a company to prohibit an employee, (and employee covers ICs in this instance) from carrying a firearm in their car. There are a few exceptions, school properties, power plants, and I think courthouses.

I am not an astrophysicist, or a scholar
Even if you were an astrophysicist, what the hell does Space have to do with any of it?

You shooting Martians?
