Uber to appeal against English tests for drivers

The introduction of a written English language test for private hire drivers has been delayed after Uber won the right to appeal against the plans.
Transport for London (TfL) had wanted to revoke licences if drivers had not passed the test by 30 September.
Uber lost a High Court battle in March against the policy.
But the Court of Appeal has said it would hear Uber's case after it argued 33,000 drivers out of 110,000 in London might not be able to renew licences.
TfL will now not introduce the policy until 9 April, depending on the result of the appeal hearing which will be heard on 20 February.
"We maintain that all licensed drivers must be able to communicate in English at an appropriate level," a TfL spokesman said.
"We will continue to robustly defend this position at the appeal."
Uber's London general manager Tom Elvidge said the company was pleased to have "secured this appeal to defend tens of thousands of drivers who risk losing their livelihoods because they can't pass an essay writing test."
In March, the 15 members of the London Assembly said passing a written English test was an unnecessary requirement for drivers and the ability to communicate verbally was more important.

Might be a good idea to do this here in Australia.That way we can get rid of the ants, who can't speak English, from the platform.Hopefully this will create more trips and surges.Uber to appeal against English tests for drivers

That's 33,000 who may be on the dole if UBER had to get rid of them.
Cheaper for a few PAX to complain about bad communication with an UBER driver than the Government forking out the dole for up to 33,000 laid off drivers.
This is why governments let UBER get away with this S*IT

Interesting part is that users always complained about cabbies not speaking English and they're too happy to put up with Uber drivers who have the same language barrier.

True. Users always said cabbies didn't know where they going and now the navigation is all good. Uber drivers know exactly where they going.
The now defunct Knowledge test actually served as a de facto English test. The failure rate in the early days of the test was 99%

There is likely 33,000 drivers collecting benefits on top of Uber income. It's the drivers responsibility to inform Centrelink of their income - Highly unlikely these drivers are completing a P&L statement every so often as agreed with Centrelink.
Same for families claiming FTB payments, drivers are to submit a profit and loss statement regularly so Centrelink can adjust your payments accordingly.
GST, Tax, Centrelink - 3 forms of debt potentially accruing.
I'm very strongly against L5S in Australia
L5S takes centrelink money away from Australians.
L5S takes jobs away from Australians.
L5S makes Australian families poor.
L5S is bad for Australia. L5S go home! (or go to another country who is friends with India, Pakistan, etc....maybe Myanmar)
Alternatively, become an Australian citizen.

Even trolls who are Australian citizens, are held in higher regard in my books.Uber doesn't check for evidence to work in Australia, because driving Uber isn't classified as "work" in the usual sense. Therefore the 20 hour work limit for student visas doesn't apply.
