Uber basically has all drivers in their fishbowl. They know your tendencies, cancelation rate, ratings, pay per hour, trips per hour Ect.... They treat us like their robotic cars already. A work slowdown may be the only cure for this. The harder and faster and more efficient you drive the more Uber wants to adjust that against us. Everything is analyzed and compared over and over. They don't want criticism just robotic workers. I have worked long shifts to make what I used to make before the rate cuts. Notice that new markets pay more then Uber tries to squeeze and adjust your world. Uber is a company run by numbers and algorithms. We are a cog in the machine. Maybe that cog should break or no longer cooperate? Uber just wants us to shut up and drive! Am I wrong? Please comment below, thanks

From my readings on this forum it seems you hit the nail on the head....THAT is why there is much talk about organizing etc...

I am for something that can leverage us to a brighter future and organizing seems to be the only way I can think of that could accomplish that.

Uber is a complacent 800lb. gorilla that will not be able to continue annoying drivers for very much longer. Once word gets out that there are better alternatives, Uber will have to change or lose their precious market dominance.
That's why there needs to be a formidable competitor. If Uber bleeds passengers to a competitor, the first thing they're going to do is add a tip option because that costs them nothing.

What can we do to exert influence on Uber? Small things that add up to a big change.

  1. Don't automatically give 5 stars because passenger didn't fart or litter in your car. Passengers routinely give 4* ratings to 5* rides because a window was cracked open, or driver missed a turn, or stopped at a yellow light. I give 40 - 50 rides a week, and I am dismayed to see a couple of 4* ratings. I have a 4.85 average, but what's the difference between those two or three pax and the dozens of 5* rating I got? It's got to be some minor annoyance out of my control, right? So screw it, passengers can't see their rating anyway - give out some shritty ratings for minor annoyances. When passengers can't get anyone to pick them up, they'll seek out an alternative.
  2. If you also drive for Lyft, give your Lyft promo codes to your Uber passengers. You get $10 for every pax you steal from Uber, Travis loses another rider to his competition. Lyft gets market share and more Lyft pax means more tips for all of us.
  3. We have to realize that if we don't change, Uber won't change. We are disposable, there's plenty more drivers out there. Make yourself valuable. Keep your car clean as can be. Don't underestimate the importance of clean windows. If your Uber car is the best it can be, pax will realize your Lyft car is the same car. Tell them Lyft is cheaper and doesn't surge like Uber. (It surges, but not like Uber)
  4. Whenever you mention the "trust and safety" charged to the driver, call it a "tip to uber"
  5. Tips from Lyft are worth about a $100 a week for me. If we could get Uber to stop this insane campaign against tipping we would all benefit.
Easy things to do, doesn't violate your agreement with Uber, isn't against any rules, won't single you out for disciplinary deactivation. Baby steps.

You must work with a different Uber. The one I deal with lets me drive whenever I want and for as long as I want. They never schedule me or call me into work. I can take as much time off as I want without even telling them.

Is this your first job? Try a real entry-level job and see how that goes, where you have to work specific days and times, can't take a break or a day off whenever you want, etc.

Good suggestions.

But before we will see any of these changes, somebody will have to buyout the ceo.

afraid every time I comment my Ratings Tank about six times in the last 12 hrs. so i'll take this last hit and shut up

The only problem facing most Uber drivers are the growing percentage of new drivers that are money hungry folks from out of country. . They will not strike, in fact during a strike they will be driving double time.
Nothing against hard workers, nothing against immigrants. They are, however, dominating the ranks of drivers since this is a trade that they easily adapt to.

Most states are handing out drivers licenses like candy, anyone can get one anymore. Just wait until the folks from south of the border catch onto Uber. No more ag work for them!

To bring Uber to its knees will require a political action against them. Drivers unite, form a Rideshare Driver local with the Teamsters. Teamsters use their political power to change Uber.

Not far fetched. It's happened and will happen again.

An Uber paid poster? I'm suspicious of anyone that posts how great Uber is, in a forum where there are so many true stories of disgust and unfair labor practices.

Maybe another perspective could be this. There are people in here that made it past their first job years ago, worked their butts off and for one reason or another, fell on rough times. They chose to work for Uber in the hopes of income and freedom. They used their own car, bought their own gas, insurance and all the other things needed to drive.

Then this company Uber started taking advantage of them. Uber had to maximize earnings and knew full well that the drivers would have to accept what was handed down. Rate decreases coupled with higher fees and commissions all took their toll on the hard working drivers. Ratings by pax used to intimidate, little flexibility to cancel without recourse.

So, before you go praising Uber ... take a look at what it's really about. Corporate profits at any cost.

Hopefully more drivers do the math. It is crazy to bring a $ 20,000 to $ 30,000 vehicle into this equation and make less than minimum wage after operating expenses. I have heard rumor that google is splitting there partnership with Uber and might make there own ride share app.

No one is forcing you or anyone else on here to drive for uber. Of course it's all about corporate profits, if you don't like how their business is run (and many don't) then stop driving! Go find a new job, go back to school, anything besides driving uber.

I agree. And did you notice in the new agreement it says we are supposed to wait ten minutes at the pickup location for a passenger? That fare might only be $2.35. If we wait ten minutes that equates to a horrible pay per hour.

When I signed on to this forum, I thought it would be a good place for me to get information and learn how to be the best possible driver. Was I wrong?

Lets see you are happy Atlantawheels with .68 & .75 CPM before comm. And I guess you have the magic formula that only new members know and the people that have been driving for a while just hasn't figured out. When I first joined this forum and Atlanta was at $1 PM and all the veterans were posting how they were making min wage after expenses I thought I knew better. After time you realize you are not making much with expenses. Sure if you don't want to count maint, gas, wear & tear, depreciation. I mean expensing all maint not just when they occur. But when your desperate you don't want to admit that your making no money. All you care about is immediate cash flow. And when I say desperate this is not said to belittle you.

Some don't have a choice, some just don't realize the cost of driving and see everything other than gas as a profit.

Uber does not live in my head but what does live in my head is how they take advantage of the desperate and uneducated (about expenses).

You see I thought all the veterans who told me what I am telling you were a@@holes. I thought they were trying to keep thier goldmine to themselves. I thought what they were telling me were lies. I apologize as it took me time to realize they were correct. And I believe the same will happen to you.

Happy Holidays and be safe all.

Lots of negativity on here. Not sure why so many unhappay folks.if ubering makes u that unhappy, flip burgers or deliver pizza.Quit letting uber live rent free in your head.
Sometimes fighting for what's right can be perceived as negativity when you lack context. If you're happy, then I'm happy for you, but just know there is a very necessary fight brewing. I'll leave you with this:

This is exactly why us more experienced and successful drivers have learned how and where to game the system. As Uber tightens the screws on us, we have to figure out new ways to game the system. And many of us are pretty damned selective about which Uber rules we will follow and which ones are just too ridiculous to pay attention to.

You're confusing negativity with the voice of experience. That's a very common mistake newbs make here. It's OK. Just know that as you learn more about this gig that you'll become more realistic.

Uber on newbie amigo!
