I would imagine when they magically roll out 1 million self driving cars, they want passengers to be accustomed to robots driving their cars. See their grooming of drivers as quiet, no-tip expected serfs. It will be a seamless transfer. One day you'll load up your pax app, jump in the car you ordered and be like "Hello...Umm excuse me....?!?! Oh... there's no one there" as you get whisked away by your driverless car.
"Um...I was just going to say we needed to wait a minute or so for my wife. She should be back at the pickup location...back there."

How much are they charging? I feel like this is something I could make for $3.
It is something you can make, I was just too lazy to put it together. for $7 I got 4 signs all laminated. Saying if you enjoy your ride remember to rate 5 stars. Then below that it says "Tips are not required, but greatly appreciated" Free shipping with all the stuff to to hang it from my headrest.

I finally put tip signs in. 5 rides Wednesday night and 3 of them tipped a total of $13. My wife made the signs at work and I bought a bag of zip ties at the dollar store. I had bottled water on hand, helped with luggage and played jazz music. I also put my PayPal address on the signs. Make sure you have change for at least $20. I'll post a update in 1 week. Rating is currently 4.89.

Can people see the signs in the dark. If your driving after 5pm it's dark out.

I put mine in a frame and added those tiny LED Christmas lights that flash. Very annoying for passengers but who cares about them.
I love it! I'm going to get a little battery operated string of Christmas light to use for the rest of the month. :D

Here is a new idea on the tipping sign. What if you had a tipping sign with a QR code on it? in fact mabye just a QR code would be better. all pax get into car with cell phone in hand and they can't put it down. they are snapchatting, listing to music, whatever. they may scan the code. you have the code set up to go to a webpage that explains all about tipping uber drivers. you could have an "about me". you could have it go to a youtube video that explains and encourages tipping. you could talk about how if you have no cash, ask about credit card tipping with a square or paypal reader. you could put your paypal email address on it, etc.

Yes and no. When they get in they see it. Roads and cities are pretty well-lit. I worked Wed night 9pm - 12:30am. 3 out of 5 trips tipped. The sign is standard printer paper size, all white, with black text and the word TIP stands out. I'm currently working on a smaller version of the tip sign. I was hoping riders would tip $1 or $2 but it was $5, $5 and $3. I recommend using string or ribbon to let the sign loosely hang from the headrest.
