I've been driving on and off for Uber for awhile. It was great at first but the money's gone down a lot in Orange County California. My rating fell down to 4.54 and Uber deactivated my account. My gripe over this is not just that 80% of my ratings have been 5-star ratings. It's that there seems to be nothing I can do to avoid bad ratings from drunk people.

My last night before deactivation was particularly unlucky. People were hurting my ears shouting at each other and playing music really loud over my AUX cable, this Muslim guy kept threatening his girlfriend, another girl actually put her hands in my hair (at least she was attractive) and after I drove 40 minutes to drop someone off, they cancelled the trip before I could slide "complete trip" so I'm not sure if I got paid the full amount for the trip. Wake up next day, account is deactivated.

So now I have 10 days of downtime until I take the Uber quality control course for $60. I don't have as little as a speeding ticket on my license and I'm always nice to everyone but I got to pay to take a quality control course and then Uber "may" reactivate my account, how much does that suck?

I can't help but wonder, if I didn't drive people from bars late at night (maybe I should switch to mornings?) this wouldn't have happened.

Hey man I need money. I haven't signed up for Lyft yet so I'll give that a try too. I figure I'll make more than $60 after reactivation so as much as it sucks, I don't have a lot of choices right now because I have things going on in my life and I need the flexibility of driving for Uber.

Alrighty then !!!!!

Have you tried your hand at reselling?

You would make more trying to hit up spots to grab something like yeezys or, going to LV and buying some hot shiet you can't get overseas and even if you do, the price is double.

Doesn't have to be yeezys or LV--folks used to go to the outlets and do Gucci, coach, and michael kors...the like.

I think that would net you way more than uber is, and still give you the flexibility. You just need to establish the right foundation

Entirely possible due to late hours.

Uber says they have your back but from what I've seen they only make a minor adjustment of a few hundredths to account for surge and other factors. So they have your back, but are twisting a knife in it.

Ratings CPR: Stick to days between 6 am and 10 pm. Don't do any surge. Avoid the one star pax (cancel / drive off at first sign of trouble or low rating pax areas before starting ride). Plus whatever else navigation, clean car etc.

Once you're over around 4.75 or so, play with the drinking and surging a little until you fall below 4.7. Always avoid the one star unless your rating is 4.8 and up and it's really worth it (needed for guarantee - jackpot $$$ ride - etc)

Maybe dont hate on people irrespective of religion, race, creed, etc. I picked up on your negative vibe when you described "this muslim guy". Who cares about his religion? Dou-che bags will be dou-che bags regardless of faith. We live in the 21st century mate, you cannot say these types of things anymore. Suppose this guy was catholic, would you then have said "this christian guy?" I very much doubt it.

I feel for you man. I'm kinda lucky that I saved enough money to not drive at these cheap rates .85 mile here in Albuquerque. A lot of drivers that swore they would not drive if uber ever lowered rates again are still driving. When I confront them they all say they still have bills to pay.

Personally I have been deriving for uber now for 19 months and will not drive at these rates. Uber is counting on drivers being in the same boat as you and others. If you do decide to continue I strongly suggest you stay away from the drunks. True it is busiest at that hour but pax always rate lower at that hour. I also drive a prius and have a 4.89 a month ago it was 4.91. When my rating dropped below 4.9 I would stop picking up at bars.

Hope this helps, one other thing be careful if your at 20 percent uber may bump you up to 25. I've read other post that claim this. One final note I.drove for yellow cab in the 80's in O. C. you may check that out. They do have part timers with a 60-40 split back then.

The best way to get good ratings is to not pick up anyone with bad ratings or who acts stupid before they ever get in your car.

Have you read through thus forum? There is plenty of info on this. But basically I don't pick up anyone below 4.7.

If I pull up and there's drinks etc. I tell them nicely that I don't allow food or drinks in my car. Unless they say "oh, sorry, no problem" and immediately get rid of them I drive away and cancel. If they have too many pax and want to clown car me I cancel. (One exception was 6 older ladies who had been told about uber and just been helped to download it and order a ride--they truly did not realise there was an XL option. I made 2 trips to their hotel 2 miles away and they tipped. Usually it's drunk idiots who argue. If you take what you can and the rest have to order another uber you will usually get a low rating.)

If they call asking where you are, how long it will be etc. Cancel. Any issues of rudeness, blame you for misplaced pin, not finding them etc. Cancel.

If you have a bad feeling about them, cancel. Most crappy trips I've taken there were warning signs.

I had one couple where the guy gave me a name that didn't match. But he got really pissed when I told him I wasn't his uber and told me I was because he had my license plate.

Since he could have just looked at it when he walked up I asked to see his phone e to confirm. Anyway, he was giving me his LAST name, which was a name that COULD have been a last name. So I was his uber.

He was really mad by then because I wouldn't let him in, thinking he was not my pax. He asked "should I just call another uber?"

I went ahead and said no I'd take him. Was 5 blocks. I only took 5 rides that night and the rest were great. But my 1 day rating for 5 rides was 3.67. I think 3 rated me and I got two 5s and a 1 from him. So yeah, I shoulda told him cancel and get another ride but give them the name on the account this time.

If you're chasing a guarantee this is difficult to do. But if deactivation is the alternative...

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I just joined the forum and have not read it before. I noticed that the rate went down and it's been pretty harsh. I used to make 2x as much money driving for Uber as I did before. Getting into Lyft on Tuesday so hopefully that will go better for me.

It has NOTHING to do with the late hours. NOTHING.

I drive only last call hours and after over 3000 rides my rating is a 4.92.

While I do feel sorry for you getting deactivated, you have to understand that you probably did it to yourself. There are bars that over-pour, those are not the pax you want. The key to being successful at late night/last call time is to find those bars inside the surge zones that serve responsibly. Those are the pax you want in your car, the ones who while tipsy are still sober enough to appreciate your service. It is just not enough to be in an area of bars at last call... you really have to know your scene.

I actually wholeheartedly disagree with this recommendation. Surge riders can often be very thankful for a ride. You should be driving during rain storms or unseasonably cold weather. Your pax will appreciate you and your warm/dry car. Also, take some time to insert yourself into areas close to large events, then turn on the app once some surge has built up. Your pax will appreciate the super-fast pick up despite any surge rates. The last thing a pax wants is to wait. Kill the wait and you will be rewarded with a better rating.

My worst ratings came from the cheap runs during the day when my service was not appreciated.
