In the brave new day that's coming, your 4.9 will now be a 3.9.

Similarly, when you now see a 3.7, you can do your explanation and 2* them if they do not tip.

Adapt or die.
No you are wrong. The "perfect" pax will be the ONLY ones to retain a high rating. Why would they not?

Although I agree with some of what you say here I disagree with you about the rating system. It is a tool that can work if used appropriately. We can just agree to disagree.
Consider the following: The rating system is ultimately about providing a driver with a sense of agency first and foremost. There is little or no structure to TNC work, every person has their own relationship with the work itself.

Uber refuses to give any guidelines for rating your peers because their concern is that first and foremost it serve as an outlet for an individuals frustration. It is arguably more a way to vent than as a tool for protecting oneself. I believe that is a reasonable understanding. If you want to sing someone's praise, you can rate them five stars. More importantly, if pax or driver are unhappy with each other, they can rather harmlessly ding them a couple stars with the added benefit that until now, Uber could use a driver's rating to control their driver's habits a bit.

From my perspective, Uber's message has always been that a driver gets to define his experience and the ability to rate a pax falls under that same pattern. I personally assume most pax have little or no concern over their rating. I can't imagine most pax would think to connect the dots to link their lack of tipping to a poor rating. I will guess that Uber is more than willing to skew a pax's rating if they sense a driver dinged them for lack of tip......

The point is, there is no structure, because the focus on the rating system is to influence how the person rating their peer feels. It isn't about actually being affective or providing useful information. It is more about retribution, allowing people to be vindictive and move on...... By design, I would argue that the peer to peer rating system is meant to be whatever a person wants it to be about. It is about illusion. It does absolutely nothing in my opinion.

As a driver, you have power locks, a phone, eyes and intuition. People change for better or worse and often on a dime. THose are your tools. Also, to some degree, you are always going to be vulnerable, respect that.

I agree with you uber Lou I ate based on the trip if they tip its s bonus if they don't I don't let it effect hoe I rate then ! I usually get a tip 75% of time !! But I'm not a full time driver so I'm not upset with the uber world I've been driving for a year and just hit my 500 ride mark today !!

I agree, at times ya have to take the good with the bad then figure a way to manipulate it to your benefit.
However I rate-em as I see fit.

I've been hearing rumors...... that passengers ratings have been reset to 5.0. I had one the other day who swore she was a 4.7??? but she came across my screen as a 5. I even checked the waybill to make sure...... Yup - 5.0
