Oh wait!
We're contractors, and have the right to perform the job to our standard.
I choose to rate non-tip normal PAX - 4
What are the suggested guidelines provided to both parties by Uber with regard to rating?
Yes! More guidelines from Uber to prove we're not contractors, please.

I hate to break it to you and your bald hairline, but I'll give any damn rating to whomever and whenever I want for whatever reason I choose. It's that simple. Spare us the lecture please.
A standing ovation and resounding applause to U-Boat for echoing the exact sentiments of so many here. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!

This ass clown (UberLou) has been beating this issue like a dead horse for the longest time. What he fails to comprehend is that no one cares about his opinion or the fact that he chooses to ignore all people that would dare disagree with him.

If pax can low rate drivers for ridiculous reasons such as not allowing excess people, not breaking traffic laws, or not supplying the extras (water, mints, gum, chargers) for pennies on the mile, then drivers have every right to rate them in kind for not tipping. End of story !!!!

It is clear that Peter and U-boat bring zero value to any conversation so I am executing my right on this site of ignoring certain members. Welcome to the ignore club, I don't have to devalue myself with your lame content anymore.
Now I feel offended! Why do you ignore them but not me? I was the first to heckle your OP so I should be at least double ignored if there is any fairness in this system. BTW, what are the official UberPeople criteria for ignoring another member?

You ask questions and provide input, you don't act like a dick. We may not always agree but at least you bring value to the conversation.

Well good thing you are not in my market. I am in with a very large group of Atlanta drivers who share my sentiments on the rating system. We actually meet, discuss, and plan the best we can. I can actually say we look out for each other as fellow drivers even though ultimately we are competing for business.

I love it. Everyday, I note the average rating getting lower.

Some here lack the imagination to see that the 3s will now be the new 4s, and 2s will be the new 3s, and so on.

Adapt or die, instead of whining for and pining for what was.

Stars, Mars, Jars, Lars, Cars...it's all pretty silly.

I have had it up to my balding hairline with all these drivers rating passengers poorly for not tipping. I hate to break it to you guys the passenger rating system is meant for us drivers, not passengers and teaching them "a lesson" that they would probably not be able to figure out anyway. Most passengers have no clue they are rated and if their rating does drop they certainly will not know why.

The rider rating system is for our benefit, to avoid dangerous and unruly passengers. I don't want to get stabbed because another driver didn't get a tip, know what I am saying?

All you are doing is creating a culture that will cause drivers to lower the rating acceptance standard when accepting a ride. All because of your personal vendetta because you are extremely butthurt because you didn't get the tip you thought you deserved. Your anger and revenge should be taken out on the people who created this culture UBER by telling riders there is "No Need To Tip". You put other drivers in danger when you use the rating system for your own selfish reasons.

I have an idea, step up your game and do something that separates you from other drivers that may prompt a passenger to consider tipping you. Or at minimum educate the passengers (appropriately and unsolicited) that tipping is not included.

BTW "People should know to tip" is an ignorant argument so save your breath. They do know about tipping, but remember they are fooled into thinking there is no need to tip or think the tip is included because of the misleading information provided by Uber.
in Chicago passenger ratings don't even show up.

I do believe they're rating is meaningless. PAX only get Uber threats after clean up fees and reported issues. (Why I always get pictures of the Police & Ambulance response they caused)

Hell, they probably only get deactivated after bounced credit card payments!

But the toes on the curb, well behaved tippers will still be 4.9s. If everyone down rates non tippers and crappy pax eventually the water cooler talk will turn to why my uber always shows up promptly and yours calls and asks destination, then says they can't make it half the time.

Uber fires low rated drivers. We can only make life difficult for low rated pax.

Anytime I get a pax complaining their previous driver took a long time or canceled, I tell them (if it's under 4.7) it may be their rating. When they ask I explain all the usual reasons for low ratings (toes on the curb, pin placement, eating or drinking in the car, wanting to stop at drive thrus) and tipping. I also tell them tipping can compensate for the above.

If they get upset I just tell them I personally would never ding a rider for not tipping, because despite it being customary for taxis, uber has created the no tipping culture with uber, but to please not shoot the messenger.

Then if they don't tip I 2* them. Hopefully the next driver calls then cancels or doesn't show and the light bulb goes on.

If they have a good rating I tell them I'm not sure why they'd have a problem as they have a good rating. Then lead into the same discussion.

In the brave new day that's coming, your 4.9 will now be a 3.9.

Similarly, when you now see a 3.7, you can do your explanation and 2* them if they do not tip.

Adapt or die.
