Before he got in the car; and he never got in the car; the pax wanted to know what it would cost to go to a town 260 miles away.

Told him I'd be glad to take him, but I had no idea how much it would cost.

While we were trying to figure it out I came to my senses and remembered how much I loathed hours on the interstate, and more hours on the interstate deadheading.

It was about this time that "Passenger Cancelled" popped up on the screen and I bid him a fond adieu.

I know there must be an app for the "how much" query.

Where is it?

I did a 232 mile under old rates and made 267 ...guy tipped $30....about a $300 ride (7.5 hours) think Fluber made 45 bucks....pax paid like $340

That was old rates .90/.12

I posted it here I think under "longest Uber ride"

Uber was $100 short on payout also....had to call and get corrected. Seems like the app shits down after certain hours

I have scheduled a trip tomorrow with private client that takes about 4 to 5 hours round trip depending on traffic. Uber charges $185 one way. Of course I wouldn't take it without return fare. Client agreed to $300.
My fee is $60 per hour.
If you're X I would charge at least $30 per hour. Your 240 mile trip is minimum 8 hours round trip. $240 should be fair.

To make this BUSINESS work, you should be *netting* $1.00/mile. When I drove a taxi I used to count on that and maybe a little more. With Uber it's tougher. I'm only averaging about $0.82/mile after expenses. But I like doing Uber better than driving a taxi, so I take the lower per-mile rate. And for me, it's all about per-mile and not per-hour. My time is cheap. My car's "time" (in miles) is not cheap. It costs me $0.28/mile for EVERY mile that I drive, whether it's for business or pleasure.

So. Someone wants to know the price to go 260 miles one-way off the app? 520 miles round-trip?? That's easy. Ballpark is $500 ($1.00/mile because you have to come back). But you could discount it. Me personally, I would not do such a trip unless I was netting $400. I ain't doing this for free or at a loss. If they won't go for $400, too bad, buy a plane ticket. Why would I want to burn up that many miles on my car for nothing?

I have an Uber friend who loves long trips, like from northwest Florida here over to Alabama where he has to deadhead back. Not me. I don't like coming back empty - it's a waste of money and really eats into your profit margin.
