How do you know they canceled because of your pic? There are many reasons why riders cancel and yes, I’m sure how the driver looks/race is one out of several;
Maybe they want a different car.
They may be looking for a specific driver who’s in the area.
They may’ve also ordered a Lyft and it’s closer/there.
They maybe realized they requested during a surge and cancel to wait it out or move from surge zone.
Someone else offered to order on their account.
They took a cab or someone offered them a ride.
They’re not ready to go.

Of those, most of my cancels come during surges.

Uber drivers play games sometimes. Buddy of mine will change pin to summon drivers 20 minutes away just to laugh at drivers who will accept. Then cancel.
Dude i think i had one of those last night where the pin was alot farther off than where the pick up point was at and it was a 20 min drive and of course after driving for 5 min he canceled

You can never know why they cancel.
Some people will wont closer driver, some rider would want to get a bigger vehicle, some female would want a female driver, and somebody can be in other driver's car to request him specifically.
I have around 500 Uber/Lyft rides for past years. Mostly ride xl/lux.

I don't get many cancels, but when I do, I enjoy accepting the next ping from them immediately after they cancel. And after they cancel that one. And the next. I think my record stands at about 6 consecutive trip requests from the same person before they gave up.

People don't cancel on me because of how I look, my name, or my car. I'm universally loved.

I don't get many cancels but one time at 3:30 am on a weekday I was in my garage with my app on while cleaning my car windows and cleaning out the car, etc...I live in West Hollywood and there are always rides happening.

I got a ping from around the corner - an apartment building - pax named "Mark" so I accepted, and he immediately cancels. One minute later, Mark pings again, I accept it, he cancels. At that point I was like "Oh Mark, we are ON!" and made it my mission to force Mark to have me as his driver. Maybe he hates Priuses (despite them being bigger inside than my Volvo - TRUTH) or maybe he hates women drivers. Either way I'm getting psyched to makes things difficult for this dude.

Third ping from Mark comes 3 minutes later. I accept. He cancels. 2 minutes later, no joke: Mark pings, I accept, he cancels. I was like "what the actual F is going on? " I mean, do i know this guy, what is his deal? It was bizarre. And I was strangely hurt and insulted. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME MARK?? Why don't you love me??!!

After that I waited another 5-6 minutes as I cleaned up a bit more, no additional pings from Mark. Finally I left to go to my waiting area near some Sunset Blvd hotels in hopes of a good ride. Mark was finally safe.

Only on Lyft. Lyft insists I provide a photo which looks like a mugshot. I notice it tends to be women of a different race than me who tend to speed cancel.

I just wish after doing this three times in a row (over however many days) it would quit giving me their ping. It's really annoying.

Back when rider photos used to be featured, a friend of mine, who is black, had a driver who accepted the ping and then drove off into the other direction and just kept on going. My friend acted befuddled, but I think he knew what the deal was. He finally canceled and got dinged with the cancel fee, and asked me to summons the next ride.
BTW, if a driver is more than 5 minutes behind the original ETA, then there is no cancellation fee with either Uber or Lyft. So if a driver drives in the opposite direction, you should be be able to cancel once they've increased the ETA by over 5 mins, and not be charged.

In my experience people don’t care about who is driving them. All they care about is the car. I started with my 13 Hyundai Elantra and had a rating of 4.86. Tons of cancels. Now I use my 09 Flex, an older car which i paid a 1/3 of what the Elantra cost and have a 4.95 with barely any cancels. I do nothing different. It’s all about the car.

I bet Mark was car shopping, trying to get an XL or Select ride at X rates.

just curious. Because I had of cancellations from riders due to my photo? Race? What could it be?? Driver rating? Is this racism or discrimination? I don't see any topic about this? Please share your stories for Uber drivers. Do you get cancelled a lot on once you accept your ping from riders once they see your profile picture and ratings? This is frustrating and it is sure upsetting!! Please share your stories, I'd like to know.
I didn't have many cancellations while driving, but did have one female pax tell me that I look a lot less scary in person than in my profile photo.
