Background check

Been driving for a while, with no records or any problems except for occassional jerks that just decides to rate you a one just because.
Suddenly without warning, account gets waitlisted (blocked) for background check. External Report comes back later with all clear and no record. But Uber still says they are doing their own internal completion. Three weeks they are still doing back ground check with no record. There were no records the first time around either. Is this normal with other drivers? Seems kinda inconsiderate for drivers that rely on Uber for income. I mean no warning or notice were
ever given. Shouldnt they at least notify drivers so you can make other plans, rather than the surprise you are out of job for a month while we investigate nothing?

Yes, Uber is notorious that way. Too many drivers get waitlisted even after passing their background checks.

What I recommend is heading to a Greenlight Hub and talking to someone in person. Switch over to Lyft to supplement your income in the meantime (If you drive for both) and wait to hear from them.

Checkr is the company that does background checks for Uber. Here's a link to their applicant portal so you can enter your info and see if your background check is complete.

Best of luck.

I've been driving part and full-time for Uber since December 2015 and I have a driver rating of 4.95.

Today is April 29th and I was waitlisted back on April 18th pending the clearance of my background check. On following day, I checked with Checker and my background was fully clear. I spoke to two Uber customer service agents and they were useless as they answered me with scripted lines. I proceeded to email Driver support and they told me the same garbage, even though Checkr cleared me. They informed me that Uber would review my background and notify me within 5-7 business days. So far it's been 12 days total and I have not heard anything from Uber.

They call us "Partners" but no company would EVER treat their "partners" like this. I've gone through several background checks and Live scans and never had an issue. The only time a company puts someone on unpaid leave pending a background investigation is when you do something illegal or violate some sort of company policy. Unlike Uber, no company I've ever heard of wouldn't just send you home without pay to clear a background check.

I hadn't driven for Lyft since April of 2016, but luckily, I was able to reactivate my app, get my car inspected, and was able to drive for them the very same day. Had it not been for Lyft, my vacation would have been ruined and I would have had other financial nightmares I probably would not have recovered from.

Uber needs to give us proper warning so we can plan. It's only fair. This incident has made me not respect this company after years of defending and promoting it. In fact, there should be a class action lawsuit for unlawful practices such as this.

Today is day 21 for me. Was in south Orange County, offline, setting df to sna airport. When I go online, get message about background review. Emailed support, same old crap, 7-15 days to complete.

Called support, Checkr report complete, this is an Uber internal review. We will be in touch in 5-7 days. Nothing in 3 weeks!

What an evil, incompetent company!

Thanks UberMikeyX, glad Lyft worked out for you. Hope you’re earning enough to take that much earned vacation.

I drive XL/Plus in LA and Orange County, Ca and have doing well on Lyft . I agree Uber should give us some kind of warning before “waitlisting” for a simple background review. 3-4 weeks is beyond incompetence. It’s really unethical and another example of how evil this company is.

Been driving for 14 months, 2000 rides and a 4.98 rating. The last few months been trying to be more selective, working smarter and going online during surge, offline when it’s gone. Read somewhere here Uber might be targeting high rated vets with this bs.

Conspiracy? Paranoid? Who knows, but you never know with this company. Why would Uber remove high rated drivers from their platform indefinitely for a background check? Only Uber knows.

What a disgraceful company! Lyft on

It has been my opinion for a long time that the more seasoned you are, the more you are able to maximize YOUR profits ... the more likely you are to be tossed out on your ear. And, this could happen a variety of ways, and 'reasons'.
I have read all of the "just fired" and "deactivated after 10 years, and 50 million five star rides" and "booted by Uber for sneezing with pax in the car and I have a 5.02 rating" posts here. The common thread is ... they're aged and matured 'partners'.
Kind of like trading in the fat wrinkled wife that got you through med school for the receptionist, Misty.
I am protected however. I am not a very good 'partner'. I fart in the car with pax's, play Rush Limbaugh at high volume, stop at 7-11 for a six pack and don't offer the sixteen year old rider one. They'll never get rid of me - I am as evil as they are.
And, when they do deactivate me, I'll probably get all disoriented (I'm old ya know) and drive right through their front office window in San Francisco.

Ooops. Sorry. Yea, my ap was on so you get to deal with James River.
Oh, and, my neck hurts.
Got a beer? I need to medicate.

Like your style Uberbastid, maybe I should drive a little "evil" and stop being such a candyass, lol. Let me know when you get all disoriented, I want to sit shotgun.

Uber finally approved my background and reactivated my account on May 3rd. So for 16 additional days after my background was cleared by Checkr, I was not able to make any money through Uber. Conveniently, they removed all my driving bonuses as well when they re-activated me, so I have absolutely no incentive to drive for them. Without the weekly bonuses, it is not worth working for Uber. With Lyft I make the same amount WITH the Uber bonuses, so unless they give me an incentive to drive for Uber again or if Lyft screws me over...I won't be making any money for Uber, unless I have to.

I will be speaking to an attorney about this matter. What Uber is doing to its Driver/Partners is not right.

Listen you guys (and gals), if you are relying on rideshare to make a living you are making a big mistake, and needlessly exposing yourself and your family to unnecessary risk.
Thanks to finally having a business man in the White House our economy is improving to the point where you can replace this job with much more security, better working conditions, and better pay.

yup they give no warnings just wake up to drive and cant go online, when it happens best thing is go see the humans first day, phone email support will be worthless

5-7 days turns another 5-7 days turns into a month nothing you can do about it, ran 2 on me within 6 months of eachother but nothing to find oh well after a fake apology back online ignoring & documenting 90+% of the illegal requests they send

always gotta have a plan b, i went to vegas for a couple weeks after the first 2

Don't you guys remember. A little while ago, uber said that they changed their background check procedure. When your yearly check comes around, expect it to take longer. Uber is making sure no more slip thru the crack drivers. If you are clean, then wait it out. Forget the emails. Going to hub is best bet.

Some of us have no choice and need to supplement our income. Some jobs don't pay as much as we earn doing ridesharing or we need to fill in the income gap with another job. I don't speak of what else I do or have done, because it is irrelevant. This topic is about UBER and their disregard for us as driver/partners, i.e people. We work, because we need to survive. A simple warning would be a nice heads-up, so we can prepare for the income loss. When you work for any other company, no one puts you on unpaid leave pending an annual background investigation. When I was a teacher, they did random annual background checks on us, but they didn't send us home without pay and with no idea when we would go back to work. This is not how business is run, so this idea that "this prevents criminals from slipping through the cracks" is bullsh**t. You can do a criminal background check without suspending someone.

yeah that was my gripe like o.k. just run it a month before it expires so its done & ready to go no interruptions, but its uber that makes too much sense, lets wait till day its due, punish the driver with no issues with a month+ unpaid leave

it is what it is expect the worse its an evil company BY DESIGN you do have a choice, dont get mad get even absolutely nothing should suprise drivers whove made it past a few months by now...

my guess is the have such high churn at 96% that most of the original background checks weren't even run just rubber stamped as passed to keep flooding the streets with drivers, & when all the bad pub started coming out to shield themselves from liability waitlisted large amounts of the rubber stamped & had a backlog before reactivating them...

Well, I just hope that I am never in a position where I have to rely on Uber to feed myself. Or picking up cans along side the freeway, or standing at a freeway off ramp with a sign ...

I was halfway through my driving day today when my Uber account went offline. Apparently Uber has decided to re-do the background check done when I started in December. Why in the world does Uber take you offline, to do a background check, when they have a six-month old check in hand? Why not just finish the new background check and if Uber does not like the results, then deactivate you?

You gotta appreciate how ham-handed and thoughtless Uber's process is.

I was driving today, and halfway through this week's quest, and online to the Uber Driver app when I noticed no pings for a while. I checked the Uber Rider app... no car where I am. Went through the usual recovery steps: go offline/online, logout/login, force stop, delete and reinstall the app, verify account status in "Uber Partner". No change. So I called Uber Support and the support person checked around and said everything was fine and I should be getting rides. We went back-and-forth for twenty minutes, I insisted if I could not see my car in the rider app, something was wrong, and he had to figure it out. Then he came back and reported my account was pending a new background check, should be Ok in 7-15 days! I received no notice by email, in the driver app, or in "Uber Partner" web, nothing. My rating is 4.98...why do we bother with that?
