Where in a snowstorm by O'Hare airport so I get a ride going 35 miles north for a lousy $28 and we're driving about 45 miles an hour because you can hardly see and the roads are so icy and right before I drop these people off the system adds another call to my queue so I drop these people off and I start heading towards this next call that's 20 minutes away I just realized.

My first thought was I need to cancel this ride it's too far away and the roads are terrible and the storm is worse up here and I can hardly see but then I get this message from this girl saying "please don't cancel on me three drivers just did and I need to get to work I have a daughter to take care of" so this breaks my heart and I go ahead and start my way towards her. It takes me 30 minutes to get there driving 25 miles an hour and I finally slide up to her door she gets in and within a few minutes she tells me that she's getting charged $61 for a $13 ride and I felt terrible for this single mom going to work at Walmart in the middle of the night. So, we finally arrive and I drop her off and I go to find out that scumbag Lyft paid me $11 and for some reason these dirtbags at lyft think that they deserve $50 for this hell ride I just went through.

So my question is to all us drivers, ARE WE LOSERS OR WHAT!!!??? Are we going to just sit here and make all of these sacrifices just so we can pay for the Mercedes car payments of these scumbag Lyft and Uber executives and their shareholders when we're doing all the work and beating up our vehicles? Yes it's not just Lyft it's also Uber.

Now some of you rideshare maybe undercover employees for them or just Yes Daddy people are going to say something stupid in their defense but how about the real drivers out here are we going to just sit here and complain about it or are we going to do something about it? I've been with these two companies for 8 years and I shouldn't have to quit because of some scumbag greedy executives who want to overcharge the passenger and then rip us off!

Therefore, there goes all our tips and probably a lower star rating and I don't blame them I would probably do the same thing if I'm getting raped when I'm just trying to go to work so I can take care of my daughter.

Don't forget people when this all started we were getting 80% and they were getting 20% and now they're getting 75% and we're getting 25% and we're doing all the work!

So, now I have to drive 40 miles at 3am by myself just to get home and at the end of the day threes hours later I make about $30 after gas and Lyft makes over a hundred bucks and all they did was forward a call to me.

I'm in Ft Lauderdale and I've basically stopped opening my Lyft app, unless I can schedule an upscale trip early in the morning to the airport. I never drive the x trips on either app. Uber upscale trips are all I really am interested in driving anymore, because I would lose money doing most Lyft trips and Uber x trips.

Get a TCP license ( easy ) and start getting cash rides.

You have to remember that when you're out hustling, you're only objective is to make as much money as you can by any means necessary. Don't accept rides or decide not to cancel rides because it's the nice thing to do. These apps are predatory as hell. If you want to succeed, you have to be just as nasty and ruthless as they are.

True dat, but I don't think it's even remotely possible to net $100K / year, after expenses. Believe me, I'm trying, but once I do my taxes I suspect I'll be lucky to come out with over $30K / year, after putting in an average of 60 hrs online/wk, 50 wks/yr, in a high paying market.

I've also been trying, with no luck, in what was once considered the best market in the country. I think I might be able to net $42k/year, after the same 60 hrs online/wk, 50 wks/year. Not very good, as that's considered very low income in SF. A person who brings the tools of their trade to the job, and bears all the costs involved to perform the task, deserves better compensation.

That's a real good way to get in trouble with the Tax Man, and I know because I've been doing taxes for over 40 years. Once you get audited, you will remain on the IRS radar for a long time!!! BTW, My rideshare business is an S-Corp, and I do my own S-Corp taxes also.

If you allow yourself to be abused or feel abused then you do lose. This gig makes one feel like a loser if you feel desparate enough that you don't have another choice. The trick is to make sure you have another choice and these gigs become a side hustle. Focus on finding something else. I suspect as many others do that the gig companies can't last much longer with a busines model that is based on drivers lose; at least I hope they fail with this kind of model.

If you want to drive full-time there are much better jobs…. Rideshare should be a side hustle only when it’s surging and the offer is $2+ per mile….. drive for a car service, airport cabs, fedex, 18 wheeler, ambulance transports, etc… there’s a million full-time driving jobs that pay much more….. start your own LS/charter company and list yourself on google…. I do airport appointments in morning and every once in a while I’ll drive Uber when it’s surging like crazy…. Don’t know how anyone would drive for these shit rates before upfront pricing. But now at least I can see the mileage and accept 1/20 requests that are short 2-3 miles and $10 at least.

Some companies won't hire old folks, or allow you to work an hour today, two hours next week, and you never have to explain, call in.....I didn't work for 4 years, but remained active except for updating docs. And some towns don't have opportunities such as airports etc...

Well, I told that since COVID & during & till now there are very few places we can go to use restrooms and often there no toilet papers and I need to buy one for to keep it in case there are none at places & my tax preparer replied me okay 👍.
tbh , I have nothing to hide from IRS . Beside , I sells heavy construction equipments like Diesel Trucks on cash only deals. LMAO 🤣😂

Your credibility is already gone. Once you say Uber has never marketed ride-share as a full time gig and then say it was like 5 years ago speaks for itself. Anything you say going forward should be taken with a grain of salt.

Ok maybe some of us were already losers when we first started ride-share but at least we could still look in the mirror every morning. Now I hide under the bed just by seeing my reflection from the bedroom window. Uber did this to me. 😩

I would have felt the same. When she told you the ride was going to cost her $60 plus dollars, you could have told her to give you $35 cash and you both would have been better off. I understand that's risky due to insurance reasons, but don't forget your own insurance would have covered you in the event of an accident.
If there were injuries on her side, it be sticky, however. Although she simply would have had to keep her mouth shut and there would be no issues.

Never trust anyone to "keep their mouth shut" when there's potential money involved

You’re not a loser, you just have a bunch of people in here talking smack because that’s all they’re good at. It’s good that you have a heart and a conscience. Unfortunately Lyft doesn’t that’s something you have to remember. right now their money raking because they know they’re going out of business. where I live right here Los Angeles there’s time is it 4 o’clock in the morning from Disneyland LAX Lyft is charging 250 260 bucks and the drivers only get like 46 $47 as it is drivers learn to stop using Lyft and switch over to Uber. Even though they’re not much better they still do pay better.

I stopped driving for Lyft when they started adding rides into my queue without the option to take a pass. I want to see what I am getting into. And yes, I agree that it is good that some people have a heart and conscience.
