I agree with everything you said. Being in L.A. and for me here the most frustrating thing is the now get out the car and deliver inside building. I've had nightmare after nightmare with these deliveries. Like you said I have no problems with single family homes and some mom and pop businesses, but apartments, and luxury apartments with delivery instructions and a definite no tip with these deliveries are the worst. I've even called the customers to let them know there's absolutely nowhere to park and not risking getting a ticket and could you just meet me at the curbside, (I could care less about getting negative feedback) some have but the majority won't . Guess I need to start getting hardcore with these customers..

Every other service has delivered food to my door. If I have to go out to the street to pick up my food there will be no tip as I will be walking past my car, just saying.
I don't expect a tip if they come down to my car, if they do fine, but when I have to get out and follow all these instructions to deliver a Big Mack meal at a high rise apartment and don't get tipped, I have major issues with that..

I've noticed that the bigger asshole i am, the more likely a tip is. Once it gets to the point where i have to say, "if you do not meet me at x location i will not be able to get your food to you," these people somehow become super nice and magically accommodating. Even if they're smiling in my face and downvoting me behind my back, it's always amazing to see decent tips from those deliveries.

Uber itself says the boost is based on an algorithm of the drivers behavior. My question is how to alter the algorithm in my favor. Stop delivering for anything under 1.6 and how the algorithm increase to entice me, or would that cause a retaliatory cut? Same thing in the opposite; deliver like crazy and they increase it as a reward, or would they then see that I'm fine with low pay and leave it that way?

Has anyone experimented?

I've always suspected boost was individually tailored! They started offering 1.5 to 1.8 to me overnight from midnight to 8 am. It works, I turn on at 4 am for them but get no more than 2 or 3 jobs. Only McDonald's is open at these times. I'll get a ton of requests for far away pickups that I decline. I have a personal policy that I will not drive past one McDonald's to pickup from another. There's two McDonalds within 5 minutes and they are the ones I will accept over night.

Ya but your a girl and can get away with that.

I always wonder if girls or guys have it better when it comes to UE.
I wonder too. Especially when summer's here. I started just last January so it's been coats and boots but I wonder if tips go up/down when we're dressed for hot weather. I'm not saying super skimpy clothes, but just more showing because of the heat. When I was a server I would do experiments with hair, make up, and clothes to see which combinations seemed to bring more tips. Including noting my moods. A lot of tipping is psychological so I'm always interested in which way of presenting yourself earns the most, for both men and women.

One female driver told me that she gets hit on by so many guys and when she tries to politely decline their advances they get butthurt and downrate/1 star her out of spite. They wave cash in her face in exchange for a date or something more. Being treated like a prostitute basically. That would kinda suck if you ask me.

The worst that's ever happened to me is some dude- that ordered wings from Hooters, go figure- started texting me, called me "baby". Cancelled the order, enjoyed my wings. Usually I just deliver the food and get away. Good tips.

I’m not sure I agree with some of this.

1. I do take long trips. Sometimes it’s worth it, sometimes it isn’t. One pickup was 15 minutes away. I got there, and the drop off was a half hour away! I got paid 18.05 for the trip. Most definitely worth the pickup.

2. Yes, we get paid for waiting now. Where I live it’s .15 a minute. I’ll wait up to 20 minutes for food in a restaurant. Hey, free Facebook time right?

3. Don’t deny small places. Literally all of my daily income(100 per day) comes from the small places. I may get a restaurant every now and then, but honestly, my income is made up of Dairy Queen and Panda Express deliveries with McDonald’s added in occasionally. And a lot of my income is made off of boosts.

I however never exit my vehicle unless the customer asks me to. They don’t tip any better if you do, and doing so causes the customer to have the expectation that every driver will exit their vehicle. Not everyone can. Maybe the driver has disabilities. I had someone tapping her foot at her front door yesterday because I didn’t get out of my car to bring it to her door. She was angry at me and rude. I gave her a downvote. Here in my area, there is no option for door delivery. And that is for a very good reason. It’s a bad area. If you want door delivery, order doordash. Lol.

My first thought reading this post is that you're lying, because your rating would tank too fast.

Although, on second thought, people say the same about me getting free food (see my free food Megathread), where I've got over $3,000 worth of free food in just 450 deliveries.

My rating fell to 85%, so I started asking each business and customer to kindly give a thumbs up in the app, and after 2 days, it's already back up to 87%, and I still get free food
The best way to get free food, aside from when it happens naturally of course, is taking an item from big orders that you like, because the restaurant doesn't get informed about it until a few days later, when they would already have manyore Uber orders, they don't know who the driver was, and assume that the staff messed up and forgot to include the item so it's best to do at busier restaurants, since their turnout is so high, they forget drivers as soon as they walk out the door.

Fyi, my low rating is from "scumbagging" in the parking lot of fast food chains, especially McDonalds, for up to 40 minutes to get paid the maximum amount of time. The downside is customers downvote for taking too long, so now I started waiting 5-10 minutes at McDonald's, and then waiting 10-15 minutes after delivery outside the customers house/building. It works the same except no downvote.

I'd downvote you too! If you don't like the pay, find another place to deliver with. If it took someone 40 min to pick up my food I'd be pretty pissed. I'm surprised the establishment didn't report you too.

I usually deliver a minute or 2 early, and I average 500+ per week. I am in good standing with my customers, and many of them are regular customers that I deliver to. I average 45 in tips in app per week, and about 50 per week in cash.

With Uber, it pays to be a nice person lol.

And a natural wait is totally different. The app tells people when there will be a longer wait at a restaurant. So they know that you will be waiting for their food for a while when they order. They don't down vote you for that.

What they downvote you for is if the app says they will have their food in 15 minutes and it takes you 45.

Seems waiting in car for customer is the norm in America. Here in Australia if I told customers to come to the car to collect food id get so many thumbs down. Most apartment buildings are ok in terms of parking but I never enter their parking lot as they are usually difficult to get in and out off so I just use street parking

Here where I live it tells us to stay in the car.

Scumbag is the correct definition. Or is it troll. I can never decide regarding you.
