EVERYONE,
I came across some information today that I don’t know what to do with because now that I’m a platinum member in 11 days from starting I don’t know if I can actually call and talk to a real person at Uber but this information is pretty important.
I found out from a passenger today that people can go on Facebook and buy Uber profiles. They actually sell them so a stranger could be getting into your car saying there are some woman or whatever. I come across this a lot where it’ll be a woman’s name, but some dude is getting in the car..
If somebody is buying a profile off Facebook marketplace or wherever and they’re actually a stranger in your car and they’re not connected, except for some fake profile because some of these names of these people are not real names. One was called pop. Another one was young boy never or something. It was weird things like that not real names. !!
here is my concern. What if somebody calls for a ride Uber thinks it’s a woman named Mary with a fake profile but they don’t know it and it’s somebody who is inclined to do some very nasty violent. Very rapid criminal activity while in your car or they’re going to do drug deals or something with those stops that Uber allows at 2:30 in the morning and some of the worst areas of the cities that we work in. Most of you may only work in one city. I work in Tampa all the way to Daytona basically and I’ve done rides in Miami. most of my driving is at night. Usually by 10 o’clock in the morning I’m back at my house sleeping.
it wouldn’t take much for somebody to call in for a ride and then during their ride they arrange an ambush because it’s some profile that’s not connected to them. I almost got ambushed the other night. The only reason I am fine is because I have a criminal justice background and also I was in the Marines. But I figured out how they can get somebody to go down a desolate road and then you’ll be blocked in there if they come to pick you up out of your car. And yes, I know you can push that little blue button. In some of these areas by the time a cop gets to you. You’ll certainly be unalived!!
With all that being said, here’s my question how come the riders don’t actually have a picture with their profile. Just because it says verified that doesn’t mean crap. And a lot of times you can tell it’s just somebody going to work. But at 2 o’clock in the morning Certain people may not be going to work when they’re gonna swing by a house for one minute and then go to another house and then go back to their house. Yes the dash cam is catching everything. But just the same what if people are smart enough to mask up before they get in your vehicle. Why doesn’t Uber make every rider have a picture with their profile!!??????
so when someone comes up to your car. And you look at the picture on the phone and it doesn’t match. You can say you’re not the person even if they have the right name? This is more I guess of a statement because some of you guys have been driving for a lot of years and there might even be someone from Uber Who is reading these posts. And if so, Uber representative, please address something like this for the safety of your drivers. Because I know it’s a vehicle it can be replaced. But criminals are pretty smart. It doesn’t take much, especially for people who really value their lives to be relieved of all their ATM cards and the person in the backseat motivates the person to drive and keep their hands on the wheel until they get to a certain spot and by then the phone is already in the backseat. And now you hostage in your car because somebody had a fake profile and then they pull up to somewhere they toss the wallet out the window to somebody basically near a bank and they’re already masked up! They go over to the ATM machine and they start withdrawing money. Or if you have a phone that opens up with a person‘s face of pinall they have to do is open up certain apps and start sending money to burner accounts.!!
keep in mind I’m an extremely strong Christian and I can come up with this with my criminal justice background. Imagine somebody who actually is desperate for money. Brings me back to my original question why is there not profile pictures on each person‘s profile.
No picture = no ride. Some of you guys are like no tip no ride no this no ride. What about no picture no ride.!!! Because if somebody calls for a ride and you show up and a stranger is at the window, looking to make entry into your vehicle because they say their name is Joe or whatever and it’s not the person on the screen looking like Joe. You should be able to receive half that fair from the person who is trying to set it up and then not give them the ride without it going against you and that would deter a lot of crime & promote more Driver safety.
I know this is a long message and I’m hoping that somebody is looking into this kind of thing. Because I work in Florida it’s warm here and we have freedom and most people don’t wear masks. Up north where it snows it would be very easy for somebody to be completely bundled up with a scarf and everything else And now you got somebody in your vehicle, pretending to be somebody else and if you have a nice vehicle it doesn’t take much to liberate you from your vehicle. They could end the ride. Put you off-line obviously take your phone remove all your money and then throw your phone out the window. Criminals are very resourceful.
I didn’t wanna sound like I was babbling. It’s just it was very concerning to know that a person can buy profiles from Uber account on Facebook. And the lady who told me this is actually a nurse..
If us drivers obviously have our pictures on our profiles and our information for our vehicle for the passengers. Then it shouldn’t be justice fair for the passengers to be verified with the picture..
So far in the almost 200 rides I’ve given in this short 13 days just from Uber. Maybe four times over in the middle of my shift says to verify myself by taking a picture of myself. Which I think is cool. So if they’re continually verifying us drivers. Then why do we keep having passengers with these fake names like they sound like their rap, stars or something. I picked up one lady and her name was actually a Spanish swear. I picked up another dude and it was like the name of a cereal. Like a literal cereal.!! And then 98% if not 99% have a regular name and there’s nothing suspicious about them. The dash cam I know saves a lot of problems. And his position just right in front. In fact, I might even move it to the bottom of the mirror. So it’s even more in their face that they can see it. I actually thought about getting a body cam and using that. Because I can put it basically on my uniform. And as I see somebody when I look towards them like hey Joe or Steve whatever. They’ll see the body cam which not only records in color and night vision but also excellent audio and everything else and it could be Bluetooth right to your phone. I think some of them are even voice activated. All you have to say is record now or something.
This long message is actually not primarily for me. Because I’m actually concerned about my fellow drivers. And it kind of bothers me the fact that Facebook would sell profiles. If they’re selling profiles, that means craigslist is certainly selling profiles. Then all you have to do is just update it with some kind of other debit card. I mean they could even plan something where a driver is picking somebody up and they set it up because that was the situation I was in near Homestead, Florida, which is south of Miami. I watched the kid who got into my vehicle. I watched a motion to the car that was at the corner in a very bad area in a complex that probably has a lot of bad things going on all the time. And then when I noticed that after I made my third right hand, turn that it was still following me that told me that this car was actually following me, but the passenger didn’t figure out what I was doing and then you know, I think I mentioned something about swinging by the police station because it was in route to where we were going. I wasn’t sure if the kids started a text messaging then or what but I noticed that car suddenly was gone. And it’s weird because I brought him right back to a complex where I had drop somebody off from a long ride.
it just keeps ringing me back to the same question why doesn’t Uber make the passengers have pictures. I would say something to Uber, but so far their automatic AI, but doesn’t do a single thing and if you talk to a person, it’s the same as I talk into a cat no one‘s really listening.
