I've been driving Uber for years. I always drive a late model minivan that qualifies for XL and comfort (currently in a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Touring L).. I have recently been receiving notifications from Uber informing me that my Chrysler Pacifica would lose its comfort status on January 15th of 2025. I assumed they must have changed the rules and were only allowing the vehicles to hold that category 5 years instead of the prior eight. So I went to the dealership and cut a deal to trade it in on a new Kia Carnival Hybrid. Then earlier today I was talking to someone at the airport who drives a 2019 Chrysler 300. We got to talking about the Comfort category and he said he hadn't received any notifications at all like that. So I went and pulled the list for all approved cars in the comfort category starting January 15th, 2025. ALL MINIVANS HAVE BEEN TAKEN OFF OF THAT LIST! Some of the vehicles on there make no sense. I have no idea how the Chevrolet Blazer could be considered a comfort vehicle. But late model, loaded minivans provide about the most comfortable ride you can get. Leather captain seats, plenty of legroom, tablets mounted in the headrest in front of you, control of your own heating and air conditioning in the back... The list of things you can get in a minivan that you can get in nothing else goes on and on...
Thanks Uber! Mind telling me what I'm supposed to do with the brand new minivan I owe $46,000 on now? Because I'll be damned if I'm using it for UberX... And there's not enough XL to make it worthwhile. Looks like I'll be switching to inDrive full-time now...
