So, I needed my Annual Vehicle inspections done and apparently the Uber Hub no longer performs the checks and needs to be done at a ASE Certified location. I went to Firestone and they charge $20 for the inspection. That's a good deal, as I imagined, but apparently they said I needed new rear break pads, because uber requirements is the brake pads can't be less than .4 millimeters, and mine were at .3 millimeters. I don't recall Uber taking my tires off during my last 2 inspections, and looking at my brake pads. Furthermore, anywhere in Uber guidelines my brakes have to be a specific thickness. Firestone would not approve my inspection unless I had this done, so it ended up costing me $259! Has anyone ever ran into a similar problem with inspections, or am I just being taken to the cleaners from Firestone..??

You could just have change them yourself and saved about 200 they took advantage of you although not too bad especially if they did the rotors they cost usually 25 each that all depends on you car make/model so about 150 for 30 minutes of work. Also about 3mm is when you will start hearing the squeak from the metal tab hitting the rotor so your pads would have needed to be changed soon anyways so they only did necessary maintenance makes sense why they would agree to do this type of service for only 20.

That's how it should be. Uber in-house inspection is pointless. They just check seatbelts, open n close doors and lights.
They will pass you even if there huge dents or one wheel missing.
Most probably they stopped doing in-house inspection due to realizing they havent been doing it right at all.
I see lots of ridrshare cars with no treads remaining on the tires. Not safe!.
So in my opinion, i kinda like this. Proper inspections, more safer to all parties and less competitions.

Sure, he could have just changed them himself if he knew how to do it, which 90% of the population doesn't, but thank you for your participation in this conversation
It's actually not that hard you know you can just search for it on YouTube right that's how i learned and like i said depending on his type of make and model it might not have been too bad for my car it would have come to a difference of about 80 for 30 minutes of work I'll do it myself. my cars pads are about 50 + 100 for 2 roters mine are expensive for some reason 20 for the inspection thats 170 he paid 250. But thats me i like working on my car and don't mind learning new things also im cheap so that too

I'm sure there is a dirty mechanic out there that would check everything off the list for $50. It's not illegal to do so, it is only an Uber Policy.
SMOG Check you cannot cheat.!

Yeah, I figured I had not had my rear brake pads replaced in the last 50k miles, so might as well get it done while I have the money,
