I know some of you are aware of this new service, but just wanted to give everybody a heads-up.
UZURV is a new service which arranges pre-scheduled rideshare pickups. They simply connect the rider and driver; the ride itself is still done through the rideshare app in the normal way.
The app is free, but both rider and driver are charged a fee when rides are arranged. The "real fee" is going to be $2.95 each, but currently it is only $.99 each.
Drivers must be approved, verified Uber and/or Lyft drivers to use UZURV. I just signed up last night, so I have not yet received any ride requests. Other drivers have reported good results.
The app has a pretty low rating on Google Play, but in reading the comments of low-raters it appears that most of them did not complete the signup procedure and have no clue what they are doing. I guess they expected to just download and open the app to start using it.
There are a couple of cool features to the app which -- if they really work as intended -- will be a plus:
Obviously, we can just give regular customers our phone numbers and have them contact us directly to set up rides.
The benefit to us is that it opens up a marketplace of potential customers we don't know yet, and gives them a simple, easy way to contact us. I posted a minimal comment on a travel site and within minutes another poster replied that it was precisely what she was looking for to use on an upcoming vacation. She had already downloaded the app and signed up.
If anyone has any actual experience with UZURV, please chime in.
*Incidentally, Ft. Lauderdale is NOT listed as one of the cities they serve, but I'm pretty sure that's an accidental omission. I've emailed them about that, and I'll post the answer.

There are a couple of cool features to the app which -- if they really work as intended -- will be a plus:
- Profile: You can write a short description of yourself which prospective riders will be able to view. That gives you some nice, limited advertising space. It also provides a listing of selected amenities you provide, and a description and picture of your vehicle.
- Favorites: Riders can designate drivers as "Favorites" and vice versa. When riders submit a scheduling request, they can choose either "Favorites Only" or all drivers. That allows your regular customers to ask you first for rides before they shop around. If you refer a rider, you are automatically listed in their Favorites.
- Filters: Drivers can filter requests by:
- Service: uber, Lyft, or both
- Proximity to their current location: any, less than 5 miles, less than 10 miles, less than 20 miles
- Trip distance: any, more than 5, 10, or 20
- Favorites Only or all
- Available time range
- Incentives: Riders can indicate a cash incentive for drivers to take their ride. I'm a little unclear on the actual mechanics of this, but I assume it's just a promise that they will tip you a certain amount in return for the inconvenience of blocking off the time and driving to them.
- Chat feature: Riders and drivers can chat directly with each other throughout the process, rather than going through a third party. Should simplify pickups, confusing pin drops, etc.
- Driver Packet: This is not part of the app, but a package of marketing materials UZURV sends you (free) once you are approved. The packet includes:
- A Getting Started with UZURV booklet for drivers
- Two headrest covers & insert cards w/ instructions.
- Two small white decals for side windows w/ instructions.
- 100 rider referral cards -business cards which give riders three free schedulings
- 50 large rack cards - larger cards explaining the system for riders
