UberEats Insurance in Ontario

I have done a fair bit of research on this topic after having been told by my insurance agent to STOP driving for UberEats.
Items I have determined regarding UberEats insurance coverage in Ontario, I believe correctly:
  • Uber's insurance policy does not cover UberEats. There is no mention of UberEats, and the policy explicitly says it covers Ride Sharing only i.e. a passenger must be in the car.
  • Every insurance company my agent checked with would not cover UberEats, except one. That one company wanted $10,000 a year to provide coverage.
  • Uber's Greenlight staff would not discuss this topic. The told me to read the policy and that they do not provide opinions of this nature. When asked if the policy applied to UberX, etc. they said yes, it did. You can draw your own conclusion as to whether UberEats is covered.
  • My agent informed me that driving for any commercial purpose without informing and getting the approval of your insurance company would nullify any insurance you might require if you had an accident while driving for UberEats. They also told me that Insurance companies are much more aware of this issue than they have been in the past, and will now investigate, and should they find you have any relationship with Uber will request information as to what Uber activity you might have been involved with at the time of the accident.
  • Being active for UberX, Uber XL, etc. and UberEats at the same time does not make the insurance coverage apply to UberEats.
You can make your own decision as to how to address this issue, but I for one, do not want to find myself on the wrong side of an insurance battle should I get into an accident while driving for UberEats. UberEats does not pay anywhere near enough to cover the additional insurance. I believe the reason UberEats is not covered by Uber is the exorbitant rates they would have to pay.

Yes, so, if the insurance is that expensive, I think most restaurants would not actually pay for this coverage. Thus, uberEats, Foodora, and Skip the Dishes fill this need by allowing the restaurant to go around the commercial insurance requirement. And as long as nothing happens while your delivering, no issues, but if something does, that you're SOL! LOL.:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

This is one of the biggest reasons I do not do EATS and also why I stopped driving for SkipTheDishes. Not one of these drivers will be covered in the event of an accident while driving for these commercial services without commercial insurance. It's really a shame that so many people are risking so much and yet probably most have no awareness at all of the risk they are taking.

I only started driving for Uber after they started providing insurance for the same reason, the risk is not worth it.

I said it. That even though their website says they cover you thst it was fishy that they actually do. And I checked my eats driver app no insurance link in there. My banned x account has it. God they are such dirt bags. I knew they were hidding behind their x commercial policy with eats

I wouldn't be so cocky about it. All they have to do is get a sapina to see if you were doing eats. But it all depends on the accident and the situation. That's what they do to see if you were texting and driving albeit with your phone provider

In case of accident, if you picked up and order then cancel right away and put the reason as damaged items. Close the uber app. It doesn't take more than a few mins. Also always keep the food away from prying eyes.

If the cops ask, just tell them you are going to a friend's house or the mall or home. They don't ask too many qs.
