Here in Minneapolis we do have some good restaurants that also do delivery with UberEats.
The problem is that when your the customer and your too far away from those good locations that you want to order your food from.
Anyway here is what happen. 6 or 7 hours ago I had a customer order food from about a mile north of Minneapolis. The pickup location is a good restaurant both with great food and awesome service. When I arrived at the restaurant and I picked up the food the customer called me almost instantly when I started the trip. The customer told me that they entered in the address incorrectly because they were too far to order from that restaurant because of the limitations with the UberEats app. The customer gave me the correct address for the drop off location and it was 18 miles outside of Minneapolis. I did some quick math in my head and because UberEats pays $0.72 per mile and the restaurant was in a boost area the trip should pay over $20.00. I told the customer that it would be kinda expensive to have it delivered and asked if they really wanted me to deliver it. The customer said it would be ok and told me that since it was so far out they would give me a tip for doing it. I wasn't expecting a tip and I went out of the city to deliver the order. It really didn't take long mostly because it was all freeway miles. I get to the customer's house and walk the food up to the front door and deliver the food. We talked for a few minutes because I didn't know that UberEats limits the distance that a customer can order food. I also asked the customer how frequently that he does this. He told me that he does order food off UberEats locally about 4 or 5 times a week because he doesn't cook and he orders from the city on weekends 1 or 2 times when his girlfriend is around. We talk about for about 4 or 5 more minutes and I get a ping and tell him that I have to get back to delivering. I start walked back to my car and he stops me and gives me a ten dollar bill and three five dollar bills and thanks me for delivering. This is the biggest tip I have seen since Christmas. Then I checked the app a little later and he tip another $5.00 dollars on the app.
I think it is stupid that UberEats limits the delivery distance.
As a driver I really would not have a problem with doing a few trips that were profitable and longer. This is stupid that Uber would limit it's own income and the income of it's drivers.
I'm also a customer. I looked at the UberEats app and tried to find a good restaurant on the other side of my city that I know does UberEats and the app does not have that restaurant listed. Nice!!!! I can not be a customer of a good restaurant and support Uber because I'm too far away. Thank you Uber for limiting my choices!!! Does Uber understand that I can order from the same restaurant using Postmates? Nice!!!
It really must nice to be Uber and limit the number of customers that a restaurant can get to just a short distance around them. If I owned a restaurant I would like to have as many customers as possible. Too bad that is not possible with Uber.
I hope someone from Uber reads this post and makes some changes. It's just stupid that a customer can not order food from where they want.
