This week, Uber has made Pool unbearable for drivers and riders alike.

As has been covered ad nauseum here lately, there's been an increase of pool requests, and passengers for me have been legit confused about the fact they ordered one.

Some have been OK with it, but have said they "can't get an uber X on the app" and settle for pool, or get pissed and cancel the ride like the driver did something wrong. The only benefit with pool is long requests and possibly string together pool and uber X rides with no downtime involved.

I'm not sure why Uber wants to piss on both drivers and riders with pushing Pool so hard, but they're only damaging their own brand as a result.

Also, do some work and actually educate your riders on how to use the damn rider app.

It can't be that difficult, time-consuming or cost-inefficient to set up a guide to make sure PAX order what they intend to use.

Then again, this is the same company that REFUSES to add a tip option for riders, so ...

I think they did a slow roll out of pool. First roll it out and get passengers used to using it without the second ping. Then they just recently truly implemented it. Seems like everyone is getting the true pool experience.

If you buy a computer or mobile device, the majority of your learning about its functionality is done online, there is very little in print form or otherwise. Most of what you need is found by trial and error, or on forums.

I think that's the model Uber is using as well. Personally I think it's a crass policy all the way around, but I'm old fashioned. I've had several confused/unhappy riders myself and it's up to me to explain things. A lot of them, though, have already figured it out, my X requests were way up on Sunday.

It's a sad truth that corporate culture all over is taking steps to shift the burden of managerial duties onto the backs of employees and even consumers. Uber isn't unique in this respect, what makes them unique is the wholly unsophisticated thug mentality at the top. These are people who would have been running a porn website 10 years ago. They just got very, very lucky. They are the Anthony Keidis of the tech world.

Most riders want a private ride, and they won't go away. That's the whole point of hiring a car. I'm finding more and more that the people choosing POOL are lower income. I think Uber is trying to capture that particular market and you can somewhat control your exposure by avoiding areas where they will be found. Not perfect, but it helps.

True, pool works only for long rides. Yesterday, while on the first leg of the trip, 2 minutes before the end I got a bing and I had to turn around to pick up the second rider. The first riders asked me what's going on. It took me 5 minutes at least to be back on the road. Now here is the bitter joke: I made $2,66 on the first leg and $1,13 on the second one Overall time spent between pick up and drop off 10 minutes. I made $18.85 from 11:55 am till 12:51 pm when I dropped the last rider in a dangerous part of town ( 5400 W Chicago) I turned off the app and drove back home. It took me 40 mn. This on a Sunday. Out of 5 rides 4 were pools. Ad nauseum it the right Latin expression... fed up in plain English.

Many apps show an optional tutorial on how to use and navigate around said app. I've yet to see Uber have that with the rider app, even before the new way they're getting PAX to order POOL. It's underhanded, IMO.

And I drive a lot downtown (foolish, I know), and I find people from seemingly coming from higher incomes are just as likely to use POOL as X.

From my very limited experience, unless you're in the burbs, POOL is unavoidable.

I agree there are worse places, albeit it is not a part of town where you want to pick up a ride. Now June 2013 I got stuck in a cross fire at Lawrence and Sheridan I did not get shot but the 3 ladies in front of me were not that lucky.
