I joined Uber when they first came to my city - turned up for launch day worked hard for 3 months then they let me go...
Reason: low ratings and complaints from customers
they tried to call me into the office i said NO tell me on the phone - they told me the bad news so i saved myself a wasted trop to their offices to listen to an ignorant fool who was taking orders from above cos thats Ubers paradigm they want drivers to do what THEY say and to treat the customers like ROYALTY - regardless so u better keep your rating above 4.7.
I asked them the specific complaints and they refused to divulge details - i got no chance to defend myself or a second chance - like going to court and the judge has already passed judgement and jury verdict is guilty - whatever happened to the right to a fair trial.
Clearly in Uber's world there is no such thing, and this is the way a lot of business (especially customer service related) is going, you follow THEIR rules or else your OUT !
This brings inot question ETHICS, where is the ETHICS and why are the government not regulating this more, Uber dont even have a dedicated drivers support team or number just all done by email - it stinks! .. and they only are available 2hrs a day. Then you can wake up one day and find you have lost your job this is wrong!
Uber has been banned in many countries for other reasons but i say BAN it or boycott it until the company learns some ethics and treats drivers with respect. They should be held to account but they are not and i dont think the government cares much either.
Like any taxi business its the drivers who are the backbone of the company NOT the customers or call centre the drivers but the drivers are getting squeezed we have to please the CUSTOMER and the COMPANY. Company rakes in the millions we go home with a few coppers in comparison and take all the flack from customers.
Its a 2-way relationship between Customer and Driver, if i get into a taxi i always give the driver 100% respect and a large tip also! (in principle) but i know how hard the job can be also so i never judge.
Im not saying go out and treat ll your customers like dirt but i am saying drivers voices should be heard and no driver should lose their job beacuse the company takes the customers word over the drivers and expects the driver to put up with anything.
But this is the new culture in taxi services, and this is why i have decided i will launch my own taxi app !! watch this space!
