Transmission issues

Hello anyone knows a knowledgeable transmission guy? I've got check engine light on my Ford and codes are P2872 and p07a3. Took it to a shop they said transmission has to be replaced $600 labor and $600 parts.
Then called "transmission specialist" shop and they said on that particular vehicle the current problematic transmission has to be rebuild and not replaced since Ford stopped making new transmissions for 2014 vehicles. He said even if you go to the dealer they gonna send the car to shop like his to rebuilt the same transmission.
Called another guys and the dude said those vehicle transmission have been recalled and the dealer would fix it for me even though there is no warranty anymore.

Who should I trust?

If the dealer doesn't take care of you go to ebay and pick up a "remanufactured" transmission, not "rebuilt". I picked one up a few years ago for $1,200 and it came with a 75,000 mile 3 year warranty. Most places that rebuild will warranty for around a year and 12,000 miles and if they find out you drive for Uber they will consider it "commercial use" and void your warranty. I would remove all Uber/Lyft badging before I took it into the dealer as well just to avoid that conversation.

If this is a Ford Fiesta/Focus it has a faulty dual clutch transmission that shudders all the time. You probably shuddered too hard and blew the clutch. The second code kind of confirms this theory. Ford recalled the transmissions from 2012-2104 for 75,000 miles, then 100,000, then 150,000 miles. I believe now its a lifetime transmission replacement.

To prevent this they offered a readjustment that is REQUIRED after every 50,000 miles. Also since we're are talking about recalls, go get your doors latches replaced, all four door latches were recalled in 2016. And the gas tank CPV in 2018 lol.

Take it to the dealer.

I talk from experience having a 2013, took it for the 50,000 miles and 100,000 miles to get adjusted. Never needed a replacement.

I had a 2013 focus and successfully sued Ford in 2015 over that dual clutch issue before they publicly acknowledged the defect and issued the recall.
The law firm that handled it had dozens of these cases against Ford. My attorney was Eric Kaczander at Krohn & Moss at 10 N Dearborn. I would talk to them if you don't get it resolved with dealer

Car is Fiesta 2014 bought used on 50k miles now is on 110k. Had warranty only for first 10k miles/1 year from the dealer. Car max recalls shows 5 but nothing with transmission related.
To bmp - before check engine poped I had a message on dash - "transmission too hot wait 5 mins". After waiting and turning it back on check engine came with both codes. I had it in a shop for hour and a half diagnostic and now is in another shop for second opinion. Not sure about going to the dealer cause every time I go they are quoting me unbelievabe numbers like $700 just for a left mirror. The car is drivable but I can feel the gear hesitates before switching the shifts and also needs an extra second or two to start moving from stopped position.

These dual clutches are sealed systems (manual transmission actuated by a computer). Can't add anything to them without opening the casing.

So these cars have sealed transmissions and can't be accessed by you. You will either need to take it to your guy to have the fluid changed (part of the problem). But I sense the biggest issue is the computers timing to shift (it's actually a manual). I remember my receipt saying the job was about $150 for the reprogramming (covered by recall). But you're right I don't see a transmission recall for a 2014 Fiesta.

I really truly recommend going to the dealer, having them reprogram the computer and change the fluid. Should not be more than $250 (loosely guessing here) if it's not covered (have them double check with your VIN).

Overall, I think you need to do some more research on your own before you have a shop try to sell you a new trans. And not a surface research. I'm talking hours of reading. It will save you alot of money.

Read this article from the Detroit Free Press:https://www.freep.com/in-depth/mone...th/money/cars/ford/2019/07/11/ford-focus-fiesta-transmission-defect/1671198001/
If your Fiesta had the same issues as my Focus and the dealer can't help, maybe the lawyer I mentioned above can. He had an assembly line of these suits against ford and knew their attorneys by name. After all, the lawyers were the ones that made the real money on that fiasco. But I saw well over $3K back from Ford on a $6K settlement just before I sold that pile of crap. ;-)

I don't know if anything can be done at 110 K. But at the time I was dealing with it, Roesch Ford claimed Ford insisted I was overreacting, the shimmer was normal and I just wasn't used to the electronic clutch. In the meantime they were settling suit after suit thinking that was cheaper than admitting a defect. I imagine there are a lot of owners that were told the same thing by their dealer and did nothing and are now in the same situation you are. Practice your acting and act like you are one of them. It probably won't help but I would at least ask them to give you a deal on the repair so you don't have to ask Krohn & Moss if there is anything that can be done to rectify Ford's lies of days gone by. I would try anyhow.

Ironically, just got a text from Uber stating I get up to 25% off car repairs through Car Advise. May be worth a shot looking at that if the dealer won't take care of you.

Have you tried to just disconnecting the battery for an hour or so. Will force the computer system to do a "reboot" and reset itself.
