Thanks for the great guide. How much will the visual inspection cost for the new car with less than 500 miles?
$25 plus 2.49% for credit card. No cash. It is better to use a credit card than buying a money order.

Don't drive around too much. Make sure that you have fewer than 500 miles at the time of inspection. You don't want to arrive at the inspection with 501 on the odometer.
What kind of car did you get?

Thanks for the advice. I haven't got any car yet, just wanted to know the cost and steps of the car registration. I've got great deals on the new Malibu but I didn't like the car. I drove rental camry for 6 months and after a month break from driving for these apps I'm in need to get a car now whether it's a rental one or my own car. Rental is good for the short term but I think I'm gonna do this for a long time, at least one year or two, I don't know. Thinking to get a new accord or wait for the new 2018 camry which is gonna be on sale this summer or the beginning of the fall. If I choose the second one then I'll get the rental car until that.

In that case the transfer process doesn't apply to you.
You are going to be starting from scratch.

Do yourself a favor and buy an used hybrid vehicle, something with less than 30k miles if possibile. Only reason I purchased a new one was due to the large upsidedown I had on my trade and no banks would finance the extra amount on a used car.

Try going to a major dealer and search their inventory. Don't ever go to those small used car dealers you find on Carguru, autotrader, etc. They will add a dealer fee of $2880 on top of the listed prices.
I went to majorworld in Queens and didn't find anything good. Can you recommend a few dealers that you know are good please?

I was talking about dealers such as Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, etc, these dealers will inspect their used cars before putting them on their inventory. I've heard major world is famous for ripping off people and selling junk cars.

Major world are big frauds. The are being investigated by department of Commerce for falsifying records on shady loans
They don't even show the pictures of the damages that cars actually have. I saw nice cheap cars on their online listings and when I saw them in person they were totaled. Every used cars in their lot is overpriced. Not worth it.

Does the car have to be "certified used vehicle"?

No the car doesn't have to be certified used

One small dealer sells used altimas for 11k and one major dealer sells similar model for 16k. So is it still recommended to go for the major dealer?
I bought mine from Hertz. Someone on this forum recommended them because of price. Their mileage maybe a little bit higher than from some dealers, but you know it is the actual one.
The dealers that advertise $11000-12000 price add a bunch of fees to increase the price. I went to the ones on Hilside Ave in Queens, and the guy was adding $2800 in fees. Sales tax was extra , on top of the fees

I went to 9 different used car dealers and 7 of them added those $2800. Only Honda and Kia dealer did ask for straight list price.

No, you just need your registration and fill out a simple form there
Reason I put 5 before 6 is due to the fact that it could take days to get a TLC appointment
I just purchased a new vehicle earlier today and will transfer my TLC plates. The dealership gave me a temporary registration and regular plates. They said the final one will be mailed within 30 days. Do you know if I can use the temporary registration to give to my insurance broker?
