Uber emailed a while back saying we have to have safety certificates in car at all times...

Whenever I ask someone why aren't they compliant they blame the cabbies. *******. You don't think cabbies have other things to do today than to mess with you? Then again, cabbies do have more time on their hands because, as all pax with children and no car seats say, then why do other uber drivers do it?

In this particular instance, the guy didn't have passengers. It is unlikely the ticket will net a conviction if he was not caught in the process of picking up or dropping off riders. Even still, if the person being picked up or dropped off is not a bylaw officer, there is no tangible proof that your car was actively working as a PTC at the time no sticker was displayed.

Really the guy could be going to the grocery store in his own time with no sticker. Just because his phone has the Uber app on it, it doesn't mean he was working.

In Toronto its one sticker only. Rear glass, bottom, right (passenger) side. I've only seen two or three drivers who've managed to actually put it in the right place.

If you have dashcam you have proof there were no passengers.

Also save your trip details/time to proove you had no passengers inside car at the time.

The sticker is only applicable if we are picking/dropping off a car.

Most likely you had some young dumbass pig give you the ticket to meet quota as it was end of the month.

Good luck. By-law has access to see drivers online and where they were. If you are online you are considered working. If you are working you must display your sticker. Those not registered with the city don't get pings so they don't show up in their app.

 

Has Uber has given access to their servers? I doubt it and you again spreading fear .... . It's a private company. Bye law officer knows that you are uber or not and your profile . In my opinion last thing uber will do will give access to their servers .

The title of your thread stated you were ticketed for not having a sticker but the ticket does not say there was no sticker, only that it was in an improper location.
So which is it?

 

Its just the catch all code they write these laws in so that you cant just say "oh i have it its just in my glovebox" or something.

You can write off the $240 ticket against your earnings just like other expenses.

 

U can never write off fines and penalties. If you get audited, they may ask for tsx records for last 7 years.

You may be right about not being able to write it off, but it is a direct cost of Ubering...

 

But in no country fines are tax deductible. This way all these Financial Institutions will write off billions of $ in their Annual reports

Sticker is inside mounted that Uber gave you. From what I hear Mississauga accepts the same placement.
