Anyone had this issue where the restaurant feels the need to call you as you make your way to the restaurant even though they can see where you are on the app? I accepted a job, and 5 minutes later I had nearly arrived and they called me, as if I was running late or something, which I wasn't. Instant thumbs down for unprofessional staff

That establishment probably has a chronic history of "order not ready" upon driver arrival. Most likely the establishment is trying not to get deactivated.

They are only new to Uber Eats so probably unsure of how to act or how it all works. They'll learn quickly enough if they keep ringing me on my way to pick up food

What type of food was it?

So, I live in what is called the second best food city in nation, second to LA which is def debatable because we have amazing food everywhere. None the less I drive tons of service industry pax and a good amount complain about favor(local delivery) Uber eats, whatever grub hub. And each establishments food is amazing IF it is eating within a reasonable amount of time, so think...what happens IF that food is not eaten in a reasonable amount of time? Soggy, nasty, whatever which leads to (drum roll) yelp reviews of the product of how bad and soggy the food is and guess what, in that delivery they the person that txted you did not get tipped by either the person ordering the food or you, so you are nothing but annoying to them as a server and an establishment, and it takes two seconds to make sure you get your ass moving for the establishments sake, the severs already know you are a loss to their income. So the texts are probably to save crap yelps. Least that’s how it goes round these parts from hear say

I get what your saying however food that needs to be eaten asap probably shoukshou be ordered on an on demand system like uber eats where waiting times vary, parking, distance to restaurant can delay delivery.

Nobody cares, they want it "fast" and pax/food orderers have no idea what good food means, the resteraunts do. You being late is why they suck, not their food, they text you to make sure you don't suck at your job lol (is why they txt, not that you suck, but they want you to deliver as fast as they give) which is impossible so the food sucks and the yelps are there, not your fault. I would do same thing if I ran a business, just sayin

They call in a panic because the food is just sitting there. They should cook food when I'm closer to restaurant and not as soon as they get a request as a driver could still be on another job. I'm not going to break speed records on my way to the restaurant as I know I don't get paid for that trip and restaurant staff need to be patient and understand how uber eats works. If they cook food too early that's on them not me

This is why it does not work, it's not you, the time gap either way is to far, you can hustle all day, doesn't matter, it is impossible

Perhaps restricting it to restaurants and locations within 10 minutes of each other would be better. I've had deliveries that are 15 minutes to customer house and no way the food is hot and ready to eat.
That's like asking for Uber to restrict to 4.9...doubtful, you are dealing with tech people that have zero sense of real world, if I were you I would aapply to a local pizza place that serves beer and has your back, and they will :)
