I took only passing interest in this thread until one of my tires ate a screw tonight. I am out 7 hours of work and had to drive for an hour to get home on the doughnut of shame.
Probably would have bit the bullet easier if this happened on surge but we know you were out there in non surge land.

Yes, it was a Sunday night so the surge does not exist.

Also I was in Covina which is part of the San Gabriel blob that never surges anyways.

Bought probably 8 sets of tires from Discount/America's tires. They're always about the best prices. I buy the warranty and free rotations. Had a couple tires fixed/replaced, and it's never a hassle. Got over 70,000 miles out of my Michelin MS and BF Goodrich Longtrails (i think that's what they were).

"Most Uber perks are not really perks".
This is completely false. Just last week I was using a double coupon from the Uber Dark pages when I was visiting the Mayo clinic for some personal "enhancements". With my double couple I was going from 5 to 10 inches with out paying any extra. Everything was going fine until the Drs. realized I was white and they were unable to do said procedure. When I inquired why they turned down procedure, they said there was nothing 10 inches and white that was realistic. Uber tried to intervene on my behalf but then realized I would have a hard time driving with two sticks shifts if I went up to 10. As you can imagine, it was a long, lonely drive back to California, pretty much empty handed.

All major tire stores price match. I choose the company/store I like best and then get quotes from a few other stores. If you have time to price match a few stores and then end up at your target store last, you'll get a good/best price at the store you wanted to be at in the first place.

Americas Tires has the best "tires only" service. They hand torque your lug nuts so you won't hear the air torque gun at this place. They balance and rotate for free with all purchases (no added fee). Because they only do tires, they have a large selection in stock and usually get you in and out fast.

You can roll into an Americas Tires anytime they're open and they'll put air in and check condition of your tires for you (don't even have to buy from them for this). They don't do any other auto service/repairs so you don't get your brakes inspected along with your periodic tire rotation from America's Tires (they're sister company, Discount Tires does Auto maintenance/repairs service though).

Go with what works for you but this is the best tire sales store I've used.

I bought a beautiful set of Michelin Pilots last week at costco. They replaced my Franken-tire collection from old Sal following a fatal pothole encounter.

The good is that they were 70 off, insurance included and I get the annual rebate thing. The bad is that they are slow and do not do alignment. The guys also tried to steal my metal valve covers so had to make a return trip to collect.

I ended up doing a lifetime alignment deal at firestone for $140. I am thinking monthly alignments. Too often?

Yeah I've always used discount tire in the past. Just thought I would see if anyone had ever tried it. I guess Monday I'll go get a quote from some of them and compare it to

So...post some pics. Tire porn!
On alignments, check with a tape measure and go in as needed or at every pot hole event. Even free alignments take up your time and they drive you nuts, trying to sell you crap.

Too often.

Go in if you hit another pothole or do the right turn curb bump routine. Or maybe go to Firestone for your Oil Changes (with coupon or price matching other coupons) so they can inspect your new tires for tread wear that might indicate Alignment problem and take care of it if you do need it.

I drove my Honda Element almost 200k miles. I think I got an alignment once, maybe. Rotated my tires about every 5k-7.5k miles, and got over 70k miles with 2 sets of tires, with even wear. Maybe it's the car and not easily knocked out of alignment, or my superior driving skills in avoiding instances that would knock it out of alignment. :D

I work very hard to give out good info, rip the shit out of stupid drivers/PAX and be funnier than UberComic . I see I am beating him so I am ready for Uber stand up comedy. I wonder where Denverdiane would have fallen if she didn't erase all her posts?
