I can see quite a few lawyers reaching out to male drivers once this feature goes live.

Women Preferences on Uber

Sounds like a potential violation of the Unruh Civil Rights Act based on discriminatory preferences for female drivers at the expense of ride trips for their male counterparts. Drivers aren't employees, so arguably they are losing business by being denied service rides while using the app. At $4k a case, the claims will add up.

What's the ratio of male to female drivers in the Bay Area? No way its 5 to 1 in SF. I hope they allow male passengers to opt out of women drivers too.

I'm sure they'll be cool with the wait times.

What they should have done is allow regular passengers to opt out of drivers who have less than a year or two experience on the platform and require a minimum rating of 4.8 or whatever.
Make the platform better instead of buying into the fear and insecurity of whatever group.

That's really interesting. How do they decide if a driver is a man or woman? How about a dude that
"identifies as a female"? How would they classify Corporal Klinger from MASH?

Default to the Sex listed on your driver's license. Probably skip all the drivers who entered "Yes" as the answer.
 
If there really is a lot of demand from women pax for this, there could be an opportunity here. As far as I know, in California at least, all you have to do is say that you identify as a woman and that automatically makes you a woman, and nobody is allowed to question it.

So all a man has to do is tell Uber he identifies as female and have them change his (her) listed gender in the app. You then submit a new photo of yourself in a wig and some makeup and job done. The best any of us will be able to aim for will be a Madeleine Albright - level of beauty, but that's ok.

You then get access to all the female-only rides as well as the regular rides from people who don't GAF. Result more rides, more profit.
 
I agree with @AgentSmith that many of the women pax you might lose might be ones you don't really want riding with you. You know, the 45 year old obese Karen who checks your license plate before getting in and demands you to tell you her name in a stern accusing voice? The one who might 1 star you if you check your mirror for traffic before turning.

Furthermore I would prefer if the women in my life riding with a random male driver if they can get a female driver. I would feel much better to know they could get a female driver.

Even if they don't request a female driver, some female drivers could sign up to drive if they could know they wouldn't get a male pax. This could increase the number of female drivers on the platform which in itself makes the female more likely to get a female driver.

Sure, but for such an elite driver pax should have to pay a $5 ride premium with 100% of it going to the driver.

That’s a lot of time effort and make up to qualify for she rides. She-Ra!

Ha! This is Uber you're talking about. Something that benefits the driver with no benefit to Uber is an automatic no.
 
"Sex change operation" is, like, sooooo 1980s. It's "gender confirmation surgery". Like, fer sher.


Still sounds quite messy, though. :eek2: . Plus, not very reversible if Uber removes this feature at later date.

But there's no need for surgery in the Land of Fruits and Nuts - Senate Bill 179 allows one to take a Walk on the Wild Side by just filling out a couple of forms:

This all sounds like a winning idea. Becoming a woman would evidently instantly make me much safer to be around (other) women, therefore providing my female pax with great comfort. Also, if a female pax misgendered me, maybe because of my beard or deep bass voice, I could sue both her and Uber for $millions.

Then, when I'm done with Ubering and have made stacks of cash from chauffeuring scared ladies around, I just let the state know that I identify as a man again and job done.

I don’t know man… 45 year old women are my sweet spot — they have lived a little and know how to appreciate the service.

SOME women bring their personal ‘baggage’ into that Uber experience… which can be exhausting. I would prefer not to have to be overly sensitive to people’s fears. You can sense the vibes from some of them, and who the **** needs that? I end up having to gently disarm them (particularly at night), and that takes too much energy.

Also, I’ve talked to plenty of female drivers, and if they look halfway decent, they get harassed constantly by male passengers. Must be tough for them.

It’s a win, win.
 
I've been cancelled on plenty of times at white women row (Laurel heights to Russian Hill/North beach).

That tells me that I'm ugly basically.

They look for better looking drivers or even better for them, female drivers.

If they don't cancel on me usually they treat me with a really defensive, stuck up, and borderline rude attitude.
