Hi all! I signed up for UberX late 2016 and never eventually drove. I did Eats for a while and then I got a job in my profession in January last year. I am currently unemployed as my contract with the firm I was working with just came to an end just recently.
I don't plan on having permanent employment for a while. Till around mid year. So thinking of starting Uberx as I don't have much to do at the moment and I like keeping myself busy.
What do you guys suggest? Is it worth it?
I own a Toyota Yaris sedan that is Uber compliant.

Yes mate go for it.No bull.;)

AFAIK, if you start UberX, you need to pay GST for UberEATS also.
If you start Uber you have to start paying GST on any other business that you conduct that was previously under the $75k threshold so I'm sure it applies to Eats.

you will start with a negative balance of at least $300 to cover the new DA/HC/RWC compliance costs required

Totes agree with Damo66 people think it's easy money, it isn't. Realistically for 99% of full time drivers it's hand-to-mouth after all deductions taken into account. That apart, over a period of driving will make you kinda bitter. If you have the option of and can do something else, I would suggest to go with that till you get a full time job. For a temporary gig you will end up screwing your car and bear the headache of ABN, GST, BAS, DA, HC License, RWC, etc. All, for approximately $10/hr. I am not even getting into the health effects. If all these sound disheartening, that's how it really is. That is, unless you are a part time surge warrior like Tom2828 . Then again it would take you a whole lot of time to gain that kinda experience as well as living in a good suburb (as in where there would be higher demand as well as surge). On the flip side, give it a go for few days and you would be wiser to stick to some other job, as in a real job.

Toyota Yaris, log on to XL and clean up

If you've got nothing to do, that's what Uber is there for.

They didn't renew your contract bcoz you're probably a misfit. Uber will love to have you.

When you can't get a job, you become a politician or an Uber driver.

If I requested an Uber and see a Yaris on its way, I'll cancel.

Guarantee 1* with a Yaris.

Hi guys! Thank you so much for your responses. Its really helpful and I learnt a lot of things I did not know. I think its not a good idea and I will not be doing it.

Hey! Thanks for telling me that. I did not know this.
Having already earned $54xxx this FY, I will also be looking at a higher income tax ratio.

Smart decision.Do you play any instruments? If the answer is yes, go and do some busking.;)

Even more laughable when base ants try to be funny with their pathetic $8 per hour earnings

Ok no BS just straight facts

Crap hourly pay
Drunk and loud riders ... At night
Frustrating when sitting in a traffic jam
Stressful when you gotta pick from CBD or in a clearway

Now the pros

Flexible
Drive for as long as you want
Good base ants also stop illegally in the CBD for fear of the deactivation
