Uber’s at it again—dangling fake “opportunities” like we can’t do basic math.

Today’s so-called “Quest” bonus:

Do 3 trips between 3PM–7PM and get a $12 bonus

Sounds good, right? Except they quietly adjust the backend time-based rates during this window to make it just another standard shift with no real upside.

You’re not earning extra. You’re chasing your tail in traffic for what you’d normally make anyway without traffic. The quest isn’t a bonus—it’s bait to pad their surge coverage without paying proper incentive.

And get this, the smaller “locked” bonuses ($4, $8) are buried under the main one—but none of them make up for the rate suppression you get hit with the moment the promo window begins.
It’s not a reward system. It’s psychological manipulation dressed up as opportunity.

Anyone else seeing this in Sydney or elsewhere? Or am I just catching on late?

Collate your evidence. Be sure to navigate to the correct rate card for the location/time of day/day of the week.

Record it regularly to get sufficient examples.

Log it with FUber (they will likely give some BS about fixed rates). Which is ok if you do the next step.

Report to ACCC.

If enough drivers do this, the ACCC will be (hopefully) forced to take action.

FUber have been fined big amounts by the ACCC before. So likely they would have made some kind of commitment to be more ethical. You would assume they also remain under the radar. If enough drivers do this, the penalties (and tarnished reputation) to FUber could potentially be big $$$ if conclusively proven. 👍

Ha! You must be new to Uber.

This sort of behavior has been going on since it started and has only gotten worse over the years.

You know the story about the scorpion who rode on the back of a fox across the river right?

Same thing, it's in Ubers nature to screw anyone over, it's how they make their money.

It's quite true that the ACCC has had some success when dealing with fubar, but along with the FWC and the TWU they appear relatively toothless, in any significant way, to stem the systematic oppression, manipulation and downright fraudulent abuse of drivers. Cynical you say, absobloodylutely😁.
I've been keeping a keen eye on what the TWU has been up to. Though any concrete info has been hard to come by there does appear to be something happening there. The 6 month consultation period finishes in August when some sort of enforceable legislation will be handed down. Exactly what that might entail is quite vague and of course fubar will fight like hell to avoid having to operate in even a remotely ethical and moral way. I'm not expecting a grand announcement in August as this could potentially drag on for years.
