So, I used to drive back when Uber (and Lyft) was first allowed to PICKUP from the airports. I stopped driving when they stopped the surge multipliers (1.6x fares) and started the surge model where they add a dollar or two.

I never cared for Uber pro or whatever because I didn’t wanna be forced to accept crappy rides* or not be able to cancel on other crappy rides* either.

so yeah, I had a lower acceptance rate and a higher cancellation rate. Didn’t care because I was making decent money and didn’t have to take airport rides from downtown. Basically, if I pull up at 5pm and you’re in the loop and have luggage with you, I’m not even stopping. Sorry. I don’t mess with airport rides. Or staging at airports either! No way.

what I wanna know is how are things different? I bet the money isn’t as good as it was when it was the surge multiplier, but what are the new tools or features for drivers? Destination filters were used heavily. Short rides were my favorite. Hate mornings so evening rushes till late night were my favorite shifts.

have customers gotten better at tips?

any help, advice, or other cool suggestions would be great.

*crappy rides: rides I don’t wanna take. Simple. Like, to the airport or way out to a distant town. I know you shouldn’t refuse rides, but eh. Like cash money said, “Money is the motive, eff with the money it get ugly as coyote.” 🤪

oh! One more thing! What’s the avg amount people are paying to go to airports from downtown?

  • Tips are worse
  • Rates are way worse
  • ORD to downtown used to be $28-$35, now it's $12-$15
  • Surge is a lot less frequent and less predictable
  • Multipliers no longer exist
  • Stocks on getting reamed by Dara are SOARING!
Whoa. Is it really that bad??

yeah I’m def not taking airport rides! not worth it.

I’d rather just cruise at night and listen to music. The passengers better not kill my vibe

Sucks about the surges, but does that mean that ride requests are more frequent?

Yeah, but we're currently getting ~40-45% of each ride now. There have been protests across multiple cities for better rates... protests haven't done crud.

Stay home or you'll just be taking more money from the rest of us, and I'm only making enough for a hot dog without the bun, and on good days I can get a lb of bad peanuts in the shell unsalted of course.

They tell you everything no matter your tier. You have trips like this to look forward to

Oh wow! Thanks! That’s really cool that they do that now! Easier for me to accept short trips over long trips.

I personally would have declined that trip. I do not wanna sit in traffic with some rando for that long. Especially for that low of a fare.

But that’s cool that they give you that info upfront. I won’t have to worry about my cancellation rate. Nice!

They released it during the slow season on purpose. Go ahead and be picky, you'll sit empty and have time to wonder if you should've taken it lbs.

Come tax time a lot of drivers tired of the slow market will take a break, while at the same time pax have money to spend.

I plan to make hay while the sun shines and take mid Dec to mid Feb off next year
