Uberselect saves my heart ache. Went to Hudson today, $24 dollars for 36 miles. It was too close of the time for me to go to my actual job so I said to myself, I am only taking uber select calls, not even a minute later I get 1 5min away in strongsville to the airport for $20, 7 miles....makes me sick looking at how far I have to drive to make $24 on X. Got out of work at 10:30pm tonight and went to the airport and took a risk and let go 10 x pings, still no cancelled my driver on my account and my acceptance rate stays above 90% waited about 30min for a select, felt so happy! I am happy there aren't many selects at the airport usually. 80 bucks for 3 trips plus the money from my actual job were my car is just sitting there looking pretty.....I hustle!

Marlan, did you try to ask Uber lately if they would let you open a Select-only account?

No because I am not exactly sure if I would want to do that....not enough select calls and on saturdays the surges can be helpful with X once it hits 3 to 5x. Plus I have only gotten 2 select pings during a surge, last night at a 1.5 from parma to garfield heights and a few months ago a 5x but went less than a mile for $20.

I understand what you are saying. But in certain cities, where Uber allows Select-only account, drivers can maintain two accounts--one is their old one (UberX/UberSelect) and their new one (UberSelect-only). So, the dual-account drivers in those cities can choose whichever one they want to turn on on any day and at any time. For example, in your case, based on your last two posts alone, if you have the two accounts, you would probably want to turn on the Select-only account last night at 10:30 p.m. after your regular job waiting at the airport, and you likely will want to use the UberX/UberSelect account on Saturdays and when X surges high. That way, you didn't have to take the risk and turn down 10 UberX pings.

We don't do that because if we want to accept an X request that's very close to us, we can. If we have SELECT ONLY on, then we wouldn't have the opportunity to choose. With rates being what they are, choosing - being extremely selective - is the only way to make better than avg earnings. As Marlan P. said, if there were enough SELECT requests, then we could successfuly run SELECT only. But that is not the case here in Cleveland.

Marlan, "went through 100 X pings" means you (A) "accept then immediately cancel do not charge passenger" or (B), "ignore X ping letting it expire"?

I think you did A. Seems like in Cleveland this strategy of avoiding X requests among Select drivers is working.

However, if they do allow an extra (second) Select-only accounts in C-town, like they do in some other cities, then last night from 10:30 pm to 2:30 am you would have the choice of turning on your Select-only account (and use your other account, the Select/X combo account, i.e., the one you have now on all other days when you are willing to take X rides and/or when Select rides are scarce).

Desperate times calls for desperate measures. The things you will find that works once your in a tight spot.....I have a couple tricks up my sleeve. I was told I cannot have just a select account even though in cleveland on the rider app I see cars that are just select.
Marlan, I have never seen Select-only cars on my rider's app. On said app, I have seen only the following four types of cars in metro Cleveland that are relevant to our discussions here (XL cars are ignored in this post to save time for poster and readers):

1. X-only cars.
2. X/Select combo cars (the account you have been driving under).
3. Select/Black combo cars.
4. Black-only cars.

Are you sure the Select-only cars you said you saw on your rider's app were not the Select/Black combo cars?

Hint: When you see a Select car which is not an X car, try checking if it is a Black car also. If it appears under Black and Select but not under X, then it is the number (3) mentioned above.

I have seen just select yes. Very sure, I have seen everything else you mentioned. You will probably see it now that I mentioned it.
I checked the entire metro area including the peripheral areas from western suburbs to southern suburbs to eastern suburbs before I posted my last post.

Now that you mentioned it, maybe that elusive one or two Select-only drivers drive very sparingly (due to very low number of Select pings throughout the week), and during the few very "Selected" hours of the week they actually drive, I wasn't using my rider's app (or looking for them when on app) in those hours. I will start checking in different hours for the, thank you for the valuable input. I think you probably understand this issue is of utmost interest to me, because whether Select-only driver's account is allowed in our city (or Akron, as I don't mind driving there to drive Select pax only) is a make or break in my decision to sign up as an Uber Driver.

If your observation is correct, i.e., there is/are UberSelect-only car(s) out there in Cleveland, do you think you can contact Uber to get a Select-only account for yourself (in the case you are approved for that new account, you will have two accounts, i.e., your old, existing one that allows you to continue to receive X and Select pings, and the new one that filters out all X pings)?

It is worth a try right?

(P/S: I added in my last post some words about XL for completeness' sake.)

It's not 'account', it's called a profile within your account. This can be accessed from the account tab on the Uber Partner app. So do as I did, and make it easier for yourself and all the X passengers you are pissing away for good reason, but pissing them off in the process..

Go to the local Partner office and create these profiles
1. Plus (Select only)
2. Minus (XL only) if it applies, if you own an SUV - believe me there are times you make as much money with XL.
3. Regular ( Select, XL and X)

If you are not sure and want to get all calls, depending on time of day, log off, log back in again, click Account, then Change in the vehicle section. Then Select the vehicle - to the above profile.

It's by far the most elegant solution. I have done it, I do Select only in every city there Select is enabled. There are smaller adjoining towns that I get into, then I'm not getting Select pings for sure. I change to Regular. It's good management of your time and therefore your revenues. Good luck!

Please don't try this by emailing Support. They will not have any clue what you are talking about. Go to the Partner Support office, where they do vehicle inspections and partner on-boarding. Those can do it!

Sat night + 2:30AM + Surge + drunk dude + SELECT
= 1 mi., 4 min and $27 fare.
LOVE IT.

I do Select only all the time.
