He was a criminal as a teenager, if he was Sudanese that wouldn't be a problem would it, in fact he can go around home invading people and car jacking them instead.
He admitted he got into trouble when young but he has turned his life around and tries to help homeless people.

If that is true the guy is really a bad man. I'm sure his more then capable of joining the IDF and becoming a "Sniper" if he worked and trained at it and even be DAN 1 black belt in Krav Maga in about a decade of full time training or just half that because he'll be able to get a black belt while he was serving in the IDF if he so desired. He comes off that he wants the "success" without putting in the blood, sweat & tears that comes with it.
