In my rural region DoorDash has been in free fall, followed not surprisingly by UberEats whose pathetic Execs have been faithfully copying DD's worst "policies."
While they have habituated many customers to still get their food with NTLT (No Tip Low Tip), and in spite of massive misleading recruiting efforts, new drivers (of which they are fewer and fewer here outside of college breaks) quickly tire out of the "hourly pay, blocks" and other such scams. For example, we have seen more of the same atrocious offer ($2.50 for 5 miles, which here means 10 miles RT) coming back about 10 minutes later, after being declined, bundled with another atrocious offer as a double ($5.75 for 8 miles!)
But this insult to the intelligence of any driver who's got more a couple neurons left is clearly not paying off, so DoorDash is again resorting to cheating on actual mileage while making an offer. Of the 4 DD jobs I accepted this week (no joke!) 2 were of that sort, and other drivers confirmed the same mileage cheating so we know that it's not a "glitch."
Details of the last occurrence for me, last night at peak time: $14 offer was for 4 miles. I quickly accept it but upon sending my standard text to my customer I see that the address, which is familiar because I've brought them food quite often, is way out of town . The food was ready and I like the customer so I deliver anyway. The actual mileage was 1 mile to restaurant + 7 miles to customer, for a total of 8 miles (plus 7 miles back for an actual total of 15 miles.) DD pay was a royal $3, tip was $11. Needless to say, this made me miss out on another gig, especially since weather was so bad.
So yeah, the scumbags are truly desperate. And BTW, more and more of their orders do not get delivered at all, which means that they are forced to pay out more and more refunds to (seriously mad) customers.
