That's true in most cases. However, I have a friend that leaves for work at 4:30 every morning. She has a Camry with studded snows tires. I have driven it several times and it makes a big difference. I have not compared them to regular snow tires but if I were her I would use the studded snows.
I'm a huge fan of snow tires, just not studded ones. If I lived further north and dealt with more un-improved roads, then absolutely, they make more sense.

I can also drive though. Studded tires might be a welcome crutch, kinda like awd, for some who have no car control ability. That I could see.

My favorite winter car was a rwd beater with a limited slip diff and nasty snows on it. It would run circles around my truck (which stays on all seasons) on the back roads. Much lighter and it could stop amd turn too!

Basically every road in Boston and surrounding area is usually pretreated with a salt mixture. So you don't really have much in the way of true ice to deal with.

Anyway even unstudded snows help in ice. Studded snows is really overkill on every car. Even in the NH mountians I think it's overkill.

So I installed my new tires today and they are Hankook ventus v12 evo 2 K120 and they are very quiet im happy with this set. Even one of my passengers mentioned that my car is so quiet. He was an Indian guy from India and guess what he tipped me $5!
My previous tires were Hankook Ventus S1 nobel 2 all season they wore great till i put 25k on them, after that they became noisy and wobbly.
So I don't know if my suspension is bad because every set of tires I'm getting they don't give me good mileage I even had Michelin and once they got 30k they become noisy. I don't know how some people say that they keep tires until 60k or 70k

A customer complained that I have loud noises coming out of my car and Lyft deactivates me.
I still have my studded snow tires on it was loud on the Mass Pike while the customer was on a calll the whole time and apparently he complained... now I have to go to a mechanic and have my car inspected for safety even though I tell them I have studded snow tires and that's the reason is loud...
This is extremely aggravating and I have no recourse for justice so I simply have to cave and go pay a mechanic to fill out the damn form just so Lyft will reactivate
Grrr
That's why I'm so cautious when it comes to the car noises because I don't want to have some passengers complain about the noise my car makes. One time I was hearing some noise from my front wheel and I had a passenger so I pulled over and ended the ride and requested another ride for him just to avoid a complaint he would've gave me. So lyft was nice they did reimburse me the money that I requested a ride for him.

You could be pulled over by the police for using studded tires off season. They destroy the pavement and spit little chunks out at cars behind you. In all seriousness you should be off the road until you have the proper equipment and not a hazard to other drivers

It's not off season for studded snow tires in MA yet.
