http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffmcmahon/2017/02/02/uber-and-lyft-may-just-be-here-for-a-brief-ride/

So when the technology is finally here in the near future. Uber and Lyft will be buying these autonomous cars to replace us, other auto manufacturers will be making these cars to cut out uber and Lyft as a middle man. The prediction is that no one will actually owning a car, instead we'll be in contracts to share cars. It'll be real car sharing. When you need a specific car, like a mini van for your ikea shopping, suv for your camping trip or even sports car for your weekend to show your ex wife you still got money to enjoy life after spousal supports. These cars will be driving to you on its own when you need it, and you are paying only when you need them. Who would need to Lyft or Uber? Middle man cut out! Uber working so hard to make this a realty.

I actually didn't read the full article cause it's too early, the above is what I'm guessing after reading a few lines, so you should probably read it yourself.

Makes perfect sense. What is the value Uber adding to autnomous car ride sharing concept really? Their USP now is their software that matches riders and drivers. Take the drivers out of the picture, they are moot. If car makers can make software that can enable self driving cars, they can throw in a few hundred million to turn it into a ride sharing platform or better yet, share a platform with other auto makers, where riders can request a specific brand/model of vehicle.Uber is toast. They know this, and they are trying to milk it as much as they can, park their profits and move unvestments elsewhere.
Yep if beck can make an app connecting riders and drivers, Toyota can make one connecting all their customers.
