Anyone have trouble using their phone# to sign up for Lyft

I got stuck at the first step on the website where you enter yr phone # and they send a code to confirm it's your number. I never got the code after 30 attempts. I emailed support, they gave me trouble shooting tips for the app (they must use Uber support systems). I tried again and this time they told me it is because I am "using a number created by an app using a VOIP system". NO I am not. I'm not using that sort of number. I've been a Virgin customer for many years, using the Sprint network. On an Android phone.

Anyone else encounter this, and was it overcome, or did yr number turn out to be no good with Lyft?

I received similar kind replies from Lyft support saying the numbers I use are VOIP numbers. I could not get verification code on two of the VOIP numbers. But I received an email saying I was officially an approved driver in my city now even they said that third number I use is a VOIP number too.

Virgin is an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) and the Lyft s/w may be confusing it with VOIP. I had a problem using google voice and a virgin phone but that problem was resolved by changing to tmobile. - Note - grammatical errors from typing on my smartphone at 1AM.

Although I was able to use the 'VOIP' number to login to accept ride requests, I was not able to call the riders when there're a no show and/or the address is not clearly displayed. Some gated community even got you locked out and you could not get the passcode to get in. So, I'm not sure what VOIP number is all about.

wow, peopel finally answered me. It only took 5 months.
Lyft specifically says Virgin Mobile is an accepted service, whether it's Mobile virtual network or not. They use Sprint's network, and it's real, not virtual.

How do you have multiple numbers? I was hoping to sign up using my actual phone number, not get new phone numbers.

I've a Google phone number and a cell phone number before I sign up with Uber. I purchased two more smart phones(one as backup or spare), comes with two numbers just for trying out Uber. they deactivate me in less than a month citing not credible reasons like acceptance rate too low or unaudited who-knows-what low rider satisfaction rating and I suddenly have two more phone bills to pay. Uber first let me call prospect riders back by asking to input the registered phone number, later, they removed that feature so I can't call riders if there is no show or biz needs to communicate.

On Lyft, I can receive prospect riders' calls [with what they call VOIP number(s)], I just can't call them now for any biz communication needs or necessity since they will not pass through the call like Uber first did to prompt driver to enter their registered number.
