A Not-So-Friendly Reminder - NV Law Requires Car Seats for Children Under 6

For the love of all that is holy, PLEASE stop taking children under the age of 6 without proper child seats! Maybe, just maybe, if these ignorant parents kept getting left on the side of the road they’d start to bring the proper seats for their demon spawn instead of encouraging all of us to break the law.

Remember, it’s YOUR business license, YOUR driver’s license, and YOUR assets that are at risk. Do you really want to risk everything you own because mom and dad can’t be bothered to bring along a booster seat for their crotch goblins?

You’d bet your a** that Lerner & Rowe, Ed Bernstein, Sweet James and the ten thousand other accident attorneys worth their retainer in this town will go after both you and Uber should one of these little monsters get injured in an accident. Be smart, it’s not worth the risk for $30. Just say “no car seat, no ride”.

Several times a month I have to cancel because a family haven't brought child seats.

A few weeks back I had another family that thought that kids didn't even count. They had 8 people, including 2 or 3 kids, I can't remember exactly ATM, but they actually argued that the kids didn't count (to be more than 6 for an XL) because they'll sit in laps.

Not the first time that's been said to me. SMH

I’ve had to cancel 3-4 this week alone, including a juicy Surge ride from Enchanted to the Bellagio. It’s absolutely ridiculous, these parents don’t give a damn about putting their kids in harm’s way but will be the first to sue in the event of an accident.

Fun fact...

In florida..

It's actually less illegal for adults to ride in the cargo area than for children to ride on laps.

Adults sittting in the cargo area is a non moving violation punishabl only with a cash fine of $20.

A carseat violation is $60 and a 3 point violation on the PARENTS license.

The Nevada law is 6-year-olds and under who weigh 60 lb or less have to be in a car seat.

I only ever go by size. If the kid looks 60 pounds or under, they need a car seat. Period.

If it's questionable, I ask the parents at the passenger window how old the child is and how much they weigh loud enough that it's caught on the dash cam.

It's almost never a coin toss though. If the kid is 2-3 ft tall it's kind of a giveaway. On average, any child under 4 feet is going to be 6 years or under.

Hell, I've had parents with swaddled up newborns that don't have a freaking car seat for them.

I have had many cancellations because of this. They have all the same responses.
PAX: I didn't know it was the law.
ME: Yes you did.
PAX: The other driver let me do it.
ME: I don't care.
PAX: It's not the law in my state.
ME: Yes it is.

Drives me nutz.
When I get that, I politely remind them that the FEDERAL LAW is 6/60. Some states have HIGHER requirements (e.g. If I remember correctly, California is up until 8 y/o (or they hit 4'9" tall (which is the height out for us too BTW)))
Is this law ever enforced? As far as taxis are concerned, I don't believe that YCS has told us about any restrictions, and they are pretty good about following the law (as opposed to Desert).
There is an exception for public transportation (taxis, buses) and emergency vehicles.

So in florida it goes on the parent/famiy member interestingly enough.

(6) The child restraint requirements imposed by this section do not apply to a chauffeur-driven taxi, limousine, sedan, van, bus, motor coach, or other passenger vehicle if the operator and the motor vehicle are hired and used for the transportation of persons for compensation. It is the obligation and responsibility of the parent, guardian, or other person responsible for a child’s welfare as defined in s. 39.01 to comply with the requirements of this section.

Fortunnatly there's an "other passenger vehicle"catch all that applies to uber/lyft and not just taxi et all.

Interestingly if it's your child you still get a ticket but if it's not an immediate a famiily member and you arn't charging money no ticket.

Love how the gubment made this work. It's like they recognize reality is what it is. There's carveouts for family but not immediate family. Taxi drivers (but not their customers)

So if I were to pickup my Cousins kids from school? No ticket...
