If it doesn't appear on your map and you're online, you'll still get pings from the surge. I have an old phone, S3, and your issue happens to me too, but still get surged rides when my map shows nothing.

Couldn't agree more Surge.. Major cat and mouse game going on with these pax this week..especially wicker park..It surges well over 2.0. Nothing..Gets to base fare pings galore..I'm not playing it..word of advice people..You are going to be sitting in traffic ALOT...you mine as well get paid for it...20-.30 cets a minute isn't going to cut it..I logged off till .40-.50 cent a minute..I'll sit in traffic all day...Log Off people..

Lyft allows prime but Uber around USA blocks the surge but will bait drivers by turning in on outside the airport.

Think about it from a pax perspective: would you pay 4.x surge or would you wait it out? I noticed in the city that once it hits 3.0 almost no one makes a request, and the area can stay solid red for quite a while. As a pax, I've waited it out or just walked. As I driver, it annoying as hell to sit on a potential gold mine and receive absolutely no requests.

I don't think Uber does it on purpose. They just block the airport, but can't/dont want to adjust the surrounding area. The app is full of glitches, we know it, this is just one of them.

Don't think that this is done on purpose as well.....but I also think that fixing the bug is at the bottom of Uber's 'To Do' list.
