So I had an an idiot drunk PAX at 3am, and she left her cell phone in the car, despite me asking her to make sure she had it. An hour and a half later, I hear ringing non stop coming from under the front seat, and the PAX I had at the time told me sounds like someone left their iPhone. That's the ringing, and pulled it from under the seat. Another 2 hours later, I get a call from a guy saying his friend left her phone. I told him I reported it to Uber and was done driving for the day and sleep, but would gladly make arrangements if I am in the area later, or leave it at the police station. He said he would have her call me directly to make arrangements later today. They just wanted to make sure the phone was safe.

30 minutes ago, I get a phone call, and the chick is like: "I'M AT YOU HOUSE!!! YOU STOLE MY PHONE AND I TRACKED IT TO YOUR LOCATION AND WE'RE OUTSIDE, BRING MY PHONE". I look out my door, no one, but down the street on the wrong corner, at the wrong building is 2 big dudes with dreads, and the phone rings again. This time, I ripped her a new one, and she starts apologizing saying she didn't know I was the Uber driver, and her friend didn't tell her that, or that I had made the offer to return the phone.

Currently waiting by my window with my 12ga and for the police. This is going to be an interesting day...

Aren't you?

It is however "off enough" that GPS and cell service is interrupted. You cannot contact a powered down phone, unless it's been hacked to not really power down.

And removing/disconnecting the battery renders the phone dead. No juice no joy. Phones require power, not sure what you're thinking here.
Some (tiny amount) have a reserve capacitor that carries enough juice to ping out a location 2 or 3 times before it also dies.

Just remember, head shots are for the movies, you want center mass. Dont stop to help the first one you shoot, be sure to clear the area to make sure the threat is over before lending any aid.

When working nights- drunk hours or otherwise- keep a compact flashlight within reach and scan the backseat & floor (in addition to verbally telling them to not leave anything behind) as the riders are exiting. If they later contact you & their shit isn't in your car, you can remind them that you had done this and that they probably left their shit elsewhere...

Shot guns can make a big hole, but by Desert Eagle at $10.00 per round will cut someone in half. One more thought any phone left in your car, see how it does at 70 mph on the 110 day.

Uber doesn't say if you return it to a police station that it has to be the closest police station. I can easily travel 50+ miles and "OOPS look what I found, better turn it in to the police station here."
