Cringe title, couldn't think of anything better ?

First of all, my feelings outlined are in no way unique to UP, I've encountered the same on numerous other forums.

In one instance, I posted on an EMS forum because I encountered a new IV drug administration system that I wasn't familiar with - after a hospital pharmacist said they were too busy to train me. The members of the forum tore me apart, saying that I shouldn't be in the field for not knowing how to use something new that I wasn't trained on. Not one member offered any advice but it went on for pages talking about me like I wasn't even there.

I've been extremely active on here over the past few months and I have made some friends here. I've spoken with a few of them about this.

Members here (again, not unique to UP) are quick to attack each other. Usually the target is someone that expresses joy in any way from driving or is open in their posts. I, and members I have spoken with, have been torn apart for such things as -

  1. What kind of car we drive
  2. When we drive
  3. Where we drive
  4. The types of trips we accept
  5. Our personal reasons for driving
  6. How we handle certain situations or passengers
  7. How we feel about Uber or Lyft
This gig is hard enough, having to deal with the occasional horrible pax, increasing gas prices, horrible support, etc. Do we really need to bash each other for the personal opinions or decisions of our peers?

Constructive criticism is fantastic and I've learned so much from the members here because of it. But when it comes down to childish name calling and personal attacks for the most trivial of things, what good does that do? And, if you've participated in that kind of activity, what do you gain from it?

This can be a crummy gig and I know that a lot of drivers come here after a horrible day. But please think twice before tearing apart another member. Seeing some great people leaving or taking a break over such behavior and they really shouldn't feel the need to.

To be clear, I greatly appreciate the Mods here. It's a high traffic site and they're giving it their all.

So what the hell does this have to do with driving? Grow a pair and stop you whining. So now you're complaining about complaining. Damn, it's like watching CNN.
Just kidding.
Now I'm complaining about you complaining that I'm complaining about complaining! ?

More of a "food for thought" thread. :)

And complaining about driving is vital, gotta vent. But going after other members for stupid reasons? Nah. That many of us can do without.

This is in general a pretty nasty place, full of bitter, disillusioned, sometimes just plain nasty people who for some reason continue to perform work they obviously hate for companies they clearly despise. The level of disdain many posters display here for their riders and for Uber and Lyft is alarming.

The other day I had to put my car in the garage for service. I ended up taking 3 or 4 Uber trips around town as I waited. My drivers were some of the nicest people I ever met, friendly, courteous, and enthusiastic about their jobs and about the freedom driving rideshare gives them to enjoy the rest of their lives. It was refreshing to see that the negative, whiny, griping attitudes found here are not typical out on the street.

I guess the Internet just kind of focuses that sort of energy and creates a false illusion of pervasive bitterness. People who are satisfied with their work and with their customers and the companies they work with just don't really have a reason to come here and post about it.

I would take a lot of what you get here with a grain of salt and remember that it's not really representative of most drivers' feelings.

Yep sure am! And it's great advice for anyone that keeps working a job that they hate. Those folks are often the members I am talking about.

Am I perfect? Far from it.

Which is drug were you talking about out of curiosity?
Not a drug, a drug administration product that I wasn't familiar with. I can see it in my mind but I can't remember the brand for the life of me.

If I remember correctly, it was difficult to break the seal in order to administer the drug without squirting it everywhere. And the drug in question was a controlled substance, so having half of it squirt across the back of the ambulance wasn't taken lightly.

Bro, the Internet is, was and will always be a conduit for the most part something that promotes discord, strife and separation from GOD. He's my employer, I regularly tell pax that the ride share companies we work for our Internet based evil dehumanized corporations who will an want too destroy us common folk drivers, with that being said I appreciate the service an 90% of the people who get into my car. My two cents. You all have a blessed ?

It would be nice if more people posted constructive commentary or at least tempered their criticism a bit. But like you and others have said here, its the nature of the beast.

It's really more the psychology behind it that I don't understand / am curious about. What good comes from it? Would these people behave the same way face to face?

I feel like we're really falling apart as a society, losing our ability to disagree without going for the throat and acting like elementary school bullies.

Specific to this site, a common theme seems to be attacking people for driving the way they choose to. Knowing absolutely nothing about their market or them as an individual. And if you dare defend yourself, putting down some logic, more trolls pile on.

I appreciate your efforts here. :) I remember things being way worse when I first joined. This is a tame forum compared to others I've seen, really.
