WTF - Austin Select Rates decreased & Lux added

Seriously, I felt bad for all the X drivers who have been taken for a ride (not in a good way) by Uber. But today I saw that Uber lowered Select rates (mileage down $0.35 [11%] and minutes down $0.10 [20%]) ... and they added Lux service for those with Commercial Insurance & Airport permits.

Seems like the only one not taking a pay cut is Uber ... their % of the fare has not decreased once ... despite the constant "slicing & dicing" of the Uber drivers. Maybe Uber needs to heed their own advice to drivers ... something like "Lower driver commission = happier drivers & happier riders"

Couple the rate decreases again with the Uber saturation of almost every market ...

But before you jump out and buy a shiny new (or used) car that is on the Lux list ... consider that there likely aren't enough Lux riders AND commercial livery insurance will cost around $400/mo ... and lest we forget that Uber has been known to shutdown service quicker than the ink can dry on your Lux car lease ... definitely not a risk I'm willing to take. *Besides ... if I did have car on the Lux list, it's unlikely that I'd be hauling around on short ass trips

Where did you see the requirements for the airport sticker and insurance? Is that available online?

Not to mention that the radical fare reduction for X fares pretty much cripples Select drivers anyway, since a good portion of Select fares come from X pax escaping the surge prices for X. Now that the X fares are so low, there's no point in calling for a Select unless you're on a business account, which means those calls will be few and far between. And there's no way this select driver will take my luxury vehicle out to get beat up for $1.10 per mile. So I'm out.

Well ... I stand corrected ... those are the Lux requirements in many cities; but not in ATX.

Gah...how do they even keep track of these differences? I gotta wonder....is anyone stupid enough to use such a high end vehicle WITHOUT commercial insurance ?
how do they even keep track of these differences
Here's the Uber analyst meeting (link) where they came up with "Lower Fares = Higher Earnings"

Yep, Uber is a mismatch of service names ... Select is called Plus in LA ... no wonder pax are confused.

Just to clarify, Lux only requirement in Austin s a premium vehicle and being a top rated driver. It is by invitation only. No requirement in Austin for commercial insurance or airport permits.

Correct ... Luxury Brand ... 2010 or newer
