I just had to see them, and it was a long trip.

Turned out it was a family of five, very nice people, kids well behaved and they tipped.

They called me and asked if kids were okay and I said yes I have earplugs, do you have child seats and they said old enough not to need either.

So you can see why the low ratings, when the kids were younger likely a pain for drivers, car seats and crying.

I didn't ask why they didn't have a car, felt it would likely risk my tip chances.

Keep using that filter software guys, making me rich! 😁

Everyone has their anecdotes of low rated pax being cool but the chances of them being total d-bags is high. This might surprise some, but I’ve set my new limit to 4.9 or higher and never been happier at this. I rarely even have to rate a pax below 5 stars now, and I’ve been holding a 5 star myself…not that I care but it’s a good indicator of how smooth its been going.

The low rating isn't usually anything to do with their behavior in the car. It's usually associated with longer wait times at pickup, multiple stops (thankfully we get to see it that now) and little things that most drivers would barely notice.
People who have the smell of NO TIP are also victim to it.
2-mile rides that take 20 minutes because of city driving (not pax fault) is another downrating opportunity.
Upfront knowledge, at least to me has eliminated any need to down rate someone, although it certainly hasn't ended.

True 'dat !!!

I've been pinged with a 3.24 before (no I didn't ) and many in the 4.20 range, but still to this day my cutoff is 4.60..........I sit in a middle/upper class area all day, so, the chances of getting a d-bag are slim, as I also know the areas to not pick up in too. Many lower rated pax I drive are usually international travellers, and in other countries driver's rate differently.

Had a 3.8 not too long ago from a casino hotel by my house. Was a nice older couple from NC. Not a long trip but they tipped well. Could have been a new user and some shitbag 1* them.
To get to a 3.8 required a lot of shitbag drivers giving them bad ratings for no good reason.

I think Uber needs to rethink the rating system to reduce driver and customer abuse.

I've had a lot of Indian business travelers - consultants or whatever - low rated, 4.7 range- and they're perfectly friendly, courteous, and better than half have always tipped me. I'm a white guy.
Sometimes if I get a low rated pax and we have time, I'll ask if they take cars often, what have their experiences been, etc. I hear often cars smell like smoke or weed, driver can't speak English, driver is rude, doesn't know the area, asks for cash for tolls bc they don't have ez pass/doesn't take toll roads leading to much longer trip. Drivers don't want to put the AC on in 90° heat in summer. It's all over the shop.

Sometimes you can tell why people have low ratings. Backseat driving, weird comments, playing music w/o earbuds. I'm a pretty hard rater as a driver.

I'm surprised, but not surprised, how many drivers I see smoking cigarettes in their cars. That smell just doesn't go away.

Of course they need to rethink the rating system, it's slanted towards passengers, we have to rate on the spot but pax can rate later.

I had a Comfort as a pax a few months ago. Highlander showed up kind of dirty on the inside. Windshield cracked straight across. A big crack I didn't notice right away as it was raining. Had the phone on his lap and he's looking down at it continuously, a simple 1.5 mi trip with one left turn. He got 1* and a report for safety, as I would expect to be if I drove my vehicle with any kind of damage.

I stopped driving, but saw my rating slowly drop to a 4.8 which I believe was mostly 4 star ratings, it took years of weekend driving to get there...even tho many people told me that I was coolest Uber driver they had ever seen.
I think any low ratings are bc I wouldn't allow open alcohol in the car...
I don't even allow cigs or vaping in my car, it's that next person who's going to complain!

I never got any reports of wrong doing... The exception being paxholes trying to get a free ride by claiming "this car smells like marijuana"... IT WAS FROM THE LAST RUDER, I SAW HIM PUT OUT A JOINT BEFORE GETTING IN THE CAR!

I eventually got a essential oil diffuser, that stopped those complaints.

I mean, open alcohol is illegal after all but these alcoholics wanted to argue saying that its legal to have an open container in my state...
I verified with the cops, it's only legal in like a limo where there is a separation between the driver and rider...

Where these paxhole alcoholics got this idea, I'll probably never know?

But yeah, they need to change the rating system to a simple thumbs up or down... Any down rating should be investigated... But that would cost them money... Not going to happen.

My passenger rating at one time was a 3.9, it’s now up to a 4.9. The reason, when my wife was going to physical therapy, she used a walker, and had to use Uber and Lyft, she was having app issues on her phone, so I would request, then text the driver to let them know. Several drivers ****ed with me, the thing was, my wife was a perfect passenger, and we always tipped at least 20%, often times cash.

Are you saying these drivers effed with you just bc your wife had a walker? They had to get out and put it in the trunk or something?
I'm not defending their behavior, just trying to understand anything else behind it... I mean is your driveway like a mile long behind a gate and it takes her 10 minutes to walk to the car? 😁

Don't really blame you for being mad at them, I had to use a walker and crutches after knee surgery.

Wouldn't it take a lot of 1 star ratings to get down to a 3.9?

If you were tipping well, weren't they were only screwing themselves out of potential future rides again with the same good passenger?

And you know she was the perfect pax because she told you so. 🤔 Just messing with you. 😂

I generally give 5* unless they do something egregious.

One example is tip baiting.

Had a Lyft Black trip. Guy ordered it for a chick. Being a female she took forever to come out. Lyft Black gives 10 minutes to come out.

At 7 minutes he texts me "please wait, I'll tip you good". It was trip #3 of a $21 Streak so I was gonna give her some slack anyway.

23 hours later no tip of course. 1* for him.

On uber, if I go out of my way for you and you give me the I'll give you a good tip line, I will help you if you "forget". I report a lost item and then report returned. Folks are welcome to judge, I don't care. I don't like being lied to.

I'm ashamed of myself for not thinking of this.
