Rumour has it that Brisbane's UBER head honcho, Mike Abbot, was at Brisbane airport this afternoon looking all anxious and angry, keeping a low profile and trying very hard not to be seen by the Taxi drivers...

Now what is going on?

Interesting, airport pick ups in the spotlight? Although his resting face is that of an angry and anxious look.

Recent emails from Uber about airport changes says cars can no longer receive pings when situated in the immediate pick up lane due to the volume of empty Uber cars that used to wait in the lane, mentioning they want to do the right thing by the airport. Just like the push to stop Uber collecting fares from OOL there'll be pressure from all involved to cease pick ups from BNE

Where abouts was he seen?

He was seen in a little red car with a driver that was sporting a beard driving along airport drive and headed towards the passenger pick up bay. Apparently he was not happy nor was the dude driving... So you could very well be right. Maybe the airport authorities have had enough of UBER and their touting inside the terminal.

And remember the airport is losing, based on approx 10 pings an hour, about $500 a day or $15000 A month from non paying uber drivers ....
No wonder I was pushed out of te pickup lane last month - even with the virtual system I will not pick up out there - just drop and leave ....

Something must have come to a head for Uber to implement the no pings in pick up lane. Even if Uber were banned from picking up at the airport, there is no way Uber QLD would switch off the airport zone.

In the beginning when it was switched off, there twitter and fb were always blown up with people wanting pick ups at BNE.

There were fines issued by Feds at the airport, too many drivers were sitting in the pick up lane trying to get a ping. If Uber ran it's business like a fleet instead of a free for all this stuff would not happen. When you have a technology company trying to work with a fleet of vehicles but living in complete denial about the true nature of it's business this stuff happens.
Get it Uber? You are running a point to point vehicle service, call it rideshare call it taxi but it involves vehicles that need rules and guidance and fleet management to be successful.
The first company to do so will run Uber out of business.

So was I the only one who got the message about first in first out queuing at the airport ?
I've seen it, pretty sure most others would have unless they've opted out of Uber emails and texts. First in first out so long as your in the airport zone.

Are drivers still parking up in the pick up lane? Did you see the email about Airport changes, drivers in the pickup lane won't receive any pings

BRISBANE AIRPORT WAITING AREA
We've made some changes to where you can receive airport trip requests. We want to do the right thing by the airport and avoid unnecessary congestion. We also want you to be able to wait in a comfortable area for trips.

The Purple area above shows the waiting area for the Brisbane Airport
The Red Area is not part of the waiting area. You will not receive a request while in this area
(This area is similar, but slightly different to the area you will see in the Partner app).
Good places to wait within the Brisbane Airport area:
  • Shell Coles Express Petrol Station
  • McDonalds
  • Sparkles Car wash

Don't bother with the airport anymore the wait is too long now, I never sat in the pickup and drop off area but right in the corner of the 30minute waiting and rarely had a wait of more than 40 minutes for a decent $30+ trip.
This will change when the current crop of victims move on after finding out they get payed [email protected] or maybe not.

Wow, cool map... you know, UberX drivers can't pick up at the airport here in Melbourne. Not officially anyway (althought there is a thread on UP somewhere with tips on how to make pick-ups). Anyway, I never bothered with it b/c Uber Melbourne said not to. I asked occassionaly, to see if the policy had changed, but it hasn't as yet...

But it's a bit diiferent down here, because we have UberBLACK in Melbourne, and they can make pick-ups. If UberX got in there, it would eat into their business. It'll get interesting if they let us in. Or UberPLUS/SELECT, if they ever get around to starting up (that was meant to be months ago).

BTW, is that bit about Maccas + Shell + Sparkles an Uber message, or your message Instyle? Methinks it's an Uber message... yeah?

Correct, that was all part of the Uber message.

Sydney is the same as Melbourne in regards to Airport pick ups.
