I hear Uber have trialed the clock automatically starting two minutes after a driver has arrived. Add on a few minutes to get there first and that's more than enough time to get out the front door and in the damn car!

Dont start trip before they come. It can cause all sorts of problems and enables them to rate you if they dont come and also make them rate you low if they do. If you can get the cancel fee better just stick to that and drive off

Good advice. If you do the math, you'd need to wait 11.43 minutes for the fare to get up to the $6 cancellation fee ($2 + 11.43*$0.35 = $6). You're simply better off waiting 5 minutes and cancelling with "No Show", it's equivalent to an $0.80/min time charge. No hassles about ratings, etc, then.
