It's probably from the experience of ordering cabs in the past. Think about it, call a cab and how long did you remember waiting if it arrived at all. Ubers app isnt exactly perfect. They spend more time on designing on car icons changing colour than correcting the lag it has with their own mapping. I still get "go to location" instead of having an address I can enter into another GPS. Dont bother telling them about unless you like reading the auto reply about reinstalling trouble shooting option.

If its busy and depending where you picking up from, I would suggest cancelling the ride and let them get the next Uber.

Does anyone start the trip if they take forever to get in the car? I had one today that took forever, called them - no answer, texted them - no answer and was ready to cancel then they show up.
Dont start trip before they come. It can cause all sorts of problems and enables them to rate you if they dont come and also make them rate you low if they do. If you can get the cancel fee better just stick to that and drive off

Good advice. If you do the math, you'd need to wait 11.43 minutes for the fare to get up to the $6 cancellation fee ($2 + 11.43*$0.35 = $6). You're simply better off waiting 5 minutes and cancelling with "No Show", it's equivalent to an $0.80/min time charge. No hassles about ratings, etc, then.
