I have seen a Lyft 'Primetime' pink window directly over the baggage claim/arrivals section of the Tampa Airport one time. It was about 9:30p on a Friday night.... and it only lasted about 5 minutes.

Never been near the airport during a surge.

It is interesting. Occasionally I see TIA lit up as surge on the driver app but when I put a pin there as a passenger...no surge.

So ... There apparently is no "set rate" for airports, they are not "protected," and surges DO occur, at least at some airports. There was a surge at PIE this morning and I dropped a pin there and it still showed as a surge.

From what I gathered from other posts on this topic, not having surges at most airports is all Uber's doing so as to prevent passengers from just getting into taxis that are usually lined up and ready to go.

I think the thing that people are forgetting is that surges are based on supply and demand. I've never been at TIA and didn't see the full allotment of drivers available on the rider app. Since TIA is a place that drivers automatically flock to, there is always a glut of drivers there, thus supply always outpaces demand, thus no surge. I believe it IS possible for there to be a surge at TIA, there just hasn't been the correct set of circumstances yet for it to happen.

Surge at the airport aside. I'm sure a lot of you vet drivers have the secret for fares out of Tampa Airport but I feel I should shed some light on the "where to be for said fares". Had my first pick up last night from TPA, and no I wasn't in the cell lot or short term parking lot like I've heard from some drivers. Now I've heard international plaza is good, the best option is get your ass about as parallel to the airport as you can. Was sitting just west of the 711 on Hilsboro when I got the ping. Fare sucked but a good future lesson was learned.
