Does anyone know why there is never a surge at the airport? Is it because drivers are always hanging out near there or is there some other reason?
Sorry to disappoint you, but I wasn't suggesting that there should be a surge at the airport, I was only wondering why there never was.Commander you disappointed with that question...Think about the 3 areas of travel cost for most travelers.
#1...airline can be pricey depending when you book plus extra fees..#2...hotel rates are actually surge pricing
in its purest form...#3...transportation...overpriced taxi's and car rentals.
How would feel if you landed in an airport and was looking at 2.9 or 1.7 etc surge pricing?
I still salute you Commander!
And, as you said, Hotels use surge pricing, and Airlines do as well. So, Airline ticket: $500; Hotel: $200/night; Ground Transportation: $30. Why should a travelers lowest cost item be protected (if they are) when the two highest cost items are not?Commander you disappointed with that question...Think about the 3 areas of travel cost for most travelers.

But there ARE surges at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International (PIE), so then what's up with that? Or does it just show as a surge but it isn't really?Unfortunately the airports are protected from surge.
In the middle of a surge that covered the entire Tampa Bay Area and the airport last year, I responded to a request from the airport thinking it might be a surge. Being new, I didn't know better. To my disappointment I learned that airports never surge. Even if all surrounding areas are surging such as in new year or Halloween day.
Why? 600+ rides. You must be new.
Ok then I'm new. So?Like I said, new.
That's a good question. I'll try placing a pin there the next time I see a surge. Is the resolution of that map the same as placing a pin on the port via pax app?
So ... There apparently is no "set rate" for airports, they are not "protected," and surges DO occur, at least at some airports. There was a surge at PIE this morning and I dropped a pin there and it still showed as a surge. Is the resolution of that map the same as placing a pin on the port via pax app?
