b/c the powers that be don't want it to happen and the public is so unbelievably stupid and tuned out to reality that they don't care. they would gladly die at the hands of some tech company rather than have to think for themselves.

 

Tesla would have been better off as a company selling electric cars without the dumb autopilot feature. This is a very young car company that has yet to master mass auto production, let alone greatly complicating things by adding a self-driving feature. They seem to have bitten off more than they can chew. Their CEO seems to treat Tesla as a part-time hobby and spending half of his time on other projects that have nothing to do with cars (SpaceX, solar cells, hyperloop etc).

If I'm an investor in Tesla I wouldn't be happy when the CEO has half of his attention devoted on other things and not 100% into his own company.

 

They. Aren’t self-driving features, they are driver assist features.

The reason they are allowed to continue is because the human is always at fault in a non-self-driving car accident.

 

A good example of a driver assist feature is power braking or power steering. The human driver is manually turning the wheel but is also being assisted by the hydraulic or electric steering making the wheel easier to turn. The human driver is still manually stepping on the brake, but is assisted with the hydraulic braking system making it much easier to brake.

But with autopilot the human occupant doesn't need to turn the wheel at all, doesn't need to brake at all, or even accelerate. The car is doing all of those things literally on its own. The human occupant isn't doing anything, so by definition that is self-driving. But feel free to call it what you want. My main point is Musk is doing far too many things at once. He takes A.D.D. to a whole new level.

 

I don’t recall any fatal car crashes on the Flintstones and Fred used his feet to stop the car.
