Hi,

I have been researching Uber and I read a lot of negative things about driving for Uber. I have done very few trips in the mean time so far and don't really plan on doing it for long, for me it's just a little bit of fun money. However my question is for those that drive for Uber on a regular basis is that if your not able to profit taking into account expenses and wear and tear on your vehicle, why do you still choose to drive for Uber?

I would speculate that most of the full time driver (X drivers) have no clue that they are actually losing money. They see the cash in hand every day and they can pay their bills. They are driving 200-400 miles per day and that's an enticing paycheck. You just have to ignore all the money you are paying out in the long run. The best advice I have ever heard is to buy a cheap beater car that still falls within the Uber age limit and run it into the ground leaving only a few thousand dollars on the floor in depreciation.

Tbh, i think the hate comes from people coming into this bussiness thinking there gonna walk away making 5k a week or something...cause thats how it was in its infancy.

Drive smart and it does really well.
This week, i worked 3 days. About
25hrs total and came away with 550 bucks. I drove around...listening to my music..met a lot of fun people.

1 mean..***** gurl who i 1* and reported cause of how rude she was.. Overall a great week. Worked my own hours and got paid better than my schoolbus job.

Soo..its a total win for me.
Everyone has the reasons to drive or not drive.

I drive cause its a fun adventure.
And the pay makes it worth my time to enjoy that adventure.

Also..if your doing it for fun money..i highly recommend to work between 2am-10am. Just be careful of drunks. But, ive always found that i get consitantly the bulk of my days paycheck within those hours. Then..it seems to slow down and its a pot shot if i get a nice long fare or not.

You could easy get some play money between those hours just working 2 or 3 days per week.

Uber is part of my commute for the day job. I live in Houston, work in the Woodlands... what's in between? The airport. How many destination tokens Uber gives you? 2x per day. That's good enough for an airport run early in the morning, and after work. And if the line is short or going quickly, I may even do one more, hoping it takes me closer to home (most of the time it does).

Also, with flexibility of the platform, I can work extra any time I want or need. Saving up for vacations has become possible in much shorter time. Instead of saving up for a few months, I put in the extra hustle, and make things happen in weeks instead of months. If I really have the will and the desire to do more trips, I can. And 50 hrs or about 85 rides later and extra $1,000 - 1,200 per week seems to be worth it for me. Just glad I don't have to do it full time.

I like it because:

1. It gets me out of the house instead of sitting and playing computer games all day long.
2. I get to meet new people.
3. I make money. Contrary to popular belief, one doesn't need a beater to make money.
4. I get to go places in Houston that I have never seen before, and I'm a native. It's like I'm being paid to tour the city.

A bit of a hostile response there...? I hope you aren't so short-fused with your passengers.

And yes, $20 is the goal, anything above that is great. Screenshots included. And my most recent ones are only in $700 range because I don't drive as much. 30-32 hrs for about $725. Yes, UberX car (Passat). Also at 4.95 rating... and not including Lyft.

Wait until uber doesn't let you use destination filter for the airport. That's what they did to me. I can set it past the airport but get 2 mile trips MAYBE in that direction now.

I'm similar. I easily make $30/hr plus before expenses, because I too only do the morning commute trip to airport on way to office. Only go into office 1-3 days a week tho. So I'm low volume driver but pays for gas, tolls and lunch every day and then some. Every now then will get a Select and it really is a good day. Since I'm already going to office, my expense and wear and tear are already expected. So it's nearly a wash, and mostly all profit.
